I am tired of the silence.

Tired of the excuses.
Tired of the political correctness.
Tired of vulnerable children being failed while adults protect broken systems and failed ideologies.

This speech was not easy to give.

But if we cannot speak honestly about the violence, neglect and dysfunction destroying too many lives in remote communities, then nothing will change.

Children deserve safety before ideology.
Before symbolism.
Before politics.

My niece was loved. She should still be here.

My response to the @FinancialReview editorial this morning. Full text in comments:

"I am glad my run for the Nats leadership has given the comfortable, coddled and second-rate political class of this country a shake.

"Our country is in decline. We are losing our living standards, we are losing our jobs, we are losing our industries, and we are losing the confidence that we are the Lucky Country."

On Monday, I plan to stand for the leadership of the Nationals party to bring back our fighting spirit. Only if we fight, will we have a fighting chance.

David Littleproud can be enormously proud of his role in defeating the Voice, putting nuclear power on the agenda and having divestiture powers adopted as Coalition policy for the first time.

But this debate is not about protecting his job or mine. This is about fighting for the jobs and livelihoods of the many people we represent. Many of the people that vote for the Nationals party have to shower after work, not before it.

They are being worn down. Their jobs are tiring, demanding and often not financially rewarding. While our banks grow fat on the teat of carbon credits and green subsidies, our workers pay for it every quarter in their power bill and every week in their shopping trolley.

The Nationals party did well at the election but only relative to the disastrous result for the Liberals. We failed in the task to help win government.

The Nationals should return to a more forthright style that helped deliver recent election victories with campaigns on the carbon tax and Adani.

Our policy plan failed to win over the voters so we need a new plan. I have outlined a different approach from the backbench for the past few years so I believe I am best placed to prosecute this change.

As leader of the Nationals I would scrap our support for net zero and instead propose that we use all of our energy resources. I would push for new housing supply and economic development in the regions. And I would argue for increased support for families so that they can have more babies.

Our nation is in decline and we risk passing on a poorer nation to our children. I believe that the only way to avoid this is to have a Liberal-National Coalition that not just wins elections but has the policy mandate for Australia to flourish again.

Our plan should be based on how we can save the country, not save the party.

I think the truth is closer to the fact that most Aussies dgaf. Just disenchanted and ignorant.
