@ThomasPeachLib I'm so sorry that you had that experience & I wanted to say thank you for being courageous enough to share your experiences so that we can all learn
Struck by @plambeSG focus on the importance of listening, as it connects many of the topics at @CILIPConf19. When we talk about diversity, equality and diversity, when we want to be better allies, the first step is always to listen to others' experiences #CILIPConf19
Micro-aggressions other, silence and put people in their place but they also create an environment in which people don't feel safe to report physical/verbal abuse & bullying is seen as normal #CILIPConf19
great point by @libbrynolf on the diversity panel about gender always being seen as the "starting point" in terms of diversity, but like they said why can't we start with everything and always include sex, race and disability when working on change #CILIPConf19
I agree with @DeweyDecibelle that diversity, equality and inclusion have been golden threads through #CILIPConf19. Her keynote today is about diversity, she started by highlighting that the discussion about sexism is further along than racism
on resilience both professional and personal (as they always come together) & the idea what we need to know "where our line in the sand is", what roles & organisations resonate with our values & being reflective, actively collaborating with people #CILIPConf19
Although I don't quite agree with Liz Jolly from @britishlibrary that a LIS degree doesn't make you a better professional and I'm concerned about the self-referential focus on "professionalism" as a key concept of librarians as "professionals", I love her focus
At the health seminar now, listening to @nhhoward work on health literacy with the public and @SueLaceybryant discussion of the TOPOL review and ideas for the future, very excited about this (new to me) area of librarianship! #CILIPConf19
@sharma_kriti "When the robots do take over, at least they should be nice". Keynote was in equal parts depressing and uplifting, many AI projects that try to create a better world https://t.co/iEWq5sYRPk #CILIPConf19
really great last presentation of #UoLibraries19 about workshops linked to ‘liberating our library’ focus @GoldsmithsLib. how to use #critlib to teach info gathering, inclusive citation practice & dissemination in the context of “resistance researching”
Using picture books to teach referencing @sgullibrary is a great way of adding novelty to the #infolit session which is better for learner & teacher. Turns out dopamine released by encountering something new & fun means we learn better #UoLibraries19
After presentation by @SMDlibQMUL, inspired to start using more audience response systems in the sessions I will be teaching, getting students engaged is a particular challenge when sessions are more generic and/or not embedded #UoLibraries19
