Asked about the draft Democratic National Committee autopsy of Democrats’ loss in the 2024 election that was released last week, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) says “this is a very shoddy piece of work. It's an incomplete piece of work.”
Van Hollen says DNC Chairman Ken Martin “should have just ripped off the band-aid earlier and put it out…we're six months from a very important election, and we should not be changing horses at this time.”
After the stage of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was evacuated, CBS News’ @weijia says she “was watching the monitors and keeping my eyes” on her family in the crowd from backstage as she tried to get more information on what was happening to keep the guests trapped in the ballroom informed.
WHCA President Weijia Jiang (@weijia): "Law enforcement has requested that we leave the premises consistent with protocol...nobody was hurt. He and the First Lady, the Cabinet, everybody is safe...we will reschedule this event in the next 30 days."
Former prisoner of the Iranian regime Siamak Namazi said the Americans who are imprisoned in Iran now “are stuck between a cruel regime that is using them as a pawn in their horrible game of hostage diplomacy.”
“In the 12-day war, Israel bombed Evin Prison around noon,” he recalled. “I think they dropped about seven bombs, and bombs don't distinguish between inmates and guards. And so, they have a real worry.”
This crucial discussion with former Iran hostages was my last CBS News production. It’s been an honor to hang my hat at this esteemed US network for the last 7 years, and to learn from legends including @margbrennan, David Martin, & Mary Walsh. I started in this profession when constant change was already the norm, so I'm not suprised and have always believed in change & innovation. Our industry needs it. Though, as a mother of two little Americans, I am also watching a budding trend where the US news industry is letting go of journalists experienced in informing the American public about their nation’s foreign policy, who've borne witness to the impact it has abroad, and how it comes full circle upon us all. It's worrying, and I hope that I am mistaken.
Pls follow the CBS Natsec team @margbrennan, @Olivia_Gazis, @JameLaporta, @ellee_watson@JenniferJJacobs to cut through the noise and stay informed. Keep watching @CBSNews.
A profound loss for our national security team - @CamJourno is someone who could read between diplomatic lines and spot a geopolitical shift before it hit the headlines — a foreign affairs specialist with real expertise and hard-earned instincts. She’s simply one of the best.
From Edward R. Murrow’s broadcasts to today, CBS News Radio has been part of the foundation of American journalism. Murrow’s mic sits on display at the National Press Club as a reminder of that legacy. When an institution like that disappears, it’s a loss for the public & for journalism.
CBS Radio was where I got my start. It was an honor to work there from the day I set foot in the DC bureau as an intern. They were the last true 24/7 news operation here, and the work they do and the amazing people there will all be missed.
There are plenty of people who report on politics, and then there are the rare few who seem to crawl inside the beast, wire its nerves directly into their own bloodstream, and come back laughing while carrying the truth like contraband. Hunter was a guiding hand for us. Hire him.

FACE THE NATION'S 70TH ANNIVERSARY: On this day 70 years ago, embattled Senator Joseph McCarthy appeared on the premiere of @FaceTheNation. In this interview, McCarthy denounced the Senate's move to censure him, calling it a "lynch-bee." Less than a month later, he would be censured by the U.S. Senate for his ruthless pursuit of communists he said infiltrated the U.S. government. Follow along for the next month as we share key moments throughout Face the Nation's long and historic run on @CBSNews.

.@margbrennan says Vice President Kamala Harris' debate strategy of saying that dictators want to manipulate Donald Trump was powerful "because we are looking at someone who is arguing to be the first female commander-in-chief of the United States, standing up there and saying, 'I want to have a strong military and I'm going to show you how I can manipulate the man standing next to me right now.'"
