One of my kids said to the other, “Mom is an influencer for parents to help them learn about mental health.” Me: “But I don’t get paid for any social media work, so really just a helper.” Kid: “So volunteer influencer. That’s better bc it’s real, not fake.” Helpers aren’t fake 🤣
Teen therapist here: teens DO hear about, think about, and worry about the decisions our courts make. People paint a picture of teens being selfish, but 24 years into this gig, I can tell you that they care & they want to make decisions about their own bodies. Listen to them.

Kids and adults don’t process stress in the same way…so something that seems small or insignificant to an adult might feel huge and overwhelming to a kid. It’s important to remember this so that we don’t dismiss or minimize when they come to us for help.
