🇱🇧 An Israeli Soldier Just Cooked a Meal in Someone Else's Home in Lebanon
An Israeli soldier posted photos of herself picking vegetables from a Lebanese family's garden and cooking in their kitchen, while the family is BANNED from returning.
The house still had food in the kitchen. The garden was still alive. Everything was exactly as the family left it, except the family.
Fifty-five villages in southern Lebanon remain closed to their residents. The people who planted those gardens and built those kitchens are not allowed back.
Someone else is eating their food.
The real Truth Nuke is recognizing that all these individuals were good leaders who advanced the socialist project in important ways—with the exception of Gorbachev who was an unmitigated disaster. Khrushchev and Brezhnev’s role in supporting anti-colonial struggles was vital.
There has also been excellent scholarship in recent years challenging the Brezhnev Stagnation trope (see “Stagnation Reconsidered” edited by Fainberg).
As for Stalin, despite the immense bloodshed he presided over, his role in securing victory in World War II alone ensures his place in history, not only as one of the greatest socialist leaders, but arguably as one of the greatest world leaders more broadly speaking.
