Koan is now Annular: the team has grown and so has the mission. The name alludes to the eclipse: transparency and confidentiality as two sides of the same instrument. Here's where things stand:
The core is a single interface across chains: send, swap, bridge, govern, and shield from one console, all anchored to a verifiable universal world state any chain can read.
Bitcoin, Zcash, Ethereum, and Solana, in chain-native address formats. Wrapped assets backed by natively held reserves with no custodial intermediary and no per-chain wallet overhead.
Underneath is a shared confidentiality pool. Every deposit deepens the same anonymity set: the more participants, the stronger the guarantee. Every settlement settles confidentially.
The mobile app is the other door into that pool, built for confidential payments between parties. Pay by name, ENS, or address, with amount and counterparty relationship kept off the public ledger. The same pool the treasury uses, scaled for a phone.
Threshold consensus. Universal world state. Confidential settlement. That's the essence of our work.

Privacy infrastructure is inevitable. Not because we want it. Because we need it. Because nothing else works without it. Because the alternative is civilizational surveillance. The only choice is who builds it and when. Everything else is detail.
Zcash interop has been the sole purpose of koan from the start.
Our team has traveled the world connecting with devs, users, businesses and dreamers looking for alternative, private payment rails..And it's closer than ever.
The last step? True decentralization.
From the ground up.
It's exciting to see this vision finally coming to life!
Zcash is endgame.
Yes 1000% We need rails for confidential asset management. It's the both the foundation and the glue that will end up holding these systems intact and functional, long term.
We realized this two years ago and have building building interop between bitcoin, zcash and ethereum ever since.
If you're building privacy, you're building for the future of permissionless, decentralization. It's that simple. Power to the users.
wagmi.
an interesting piece of crypto lore is that in 2010 a forum member suggested making Bitcoin private with ZK
and Satoshi responded that this would make Bitcoin better but that he didn't know how to do it
Community Update: #2
Upgrade.
Bridging from UTXO chains (in this case Zcash testnet) has moved from payment-bearing inscriptions encoding instructions to a JSON-RPC based approach where users no longer need to run Koan's client software or even a webapp interfacing with it.
Now it's as simple as making an HTTP POST request to a validator's RPC endpoint, which returns a deposit address and information to verify the address is under validator set management, plus validator information including signed attestations for verification and dispute purposes.
Validators leverage mempool analysis to process transactions prior to confirmation, prioritizing user experience. Negotiating transactions with validators offchain and facilitating deposits to freshly generated pseudorandom addresses improves confidentiality - bridging transactions are indistinguishable from others.
This positions Koan not just as Zcash to EVM bridging infrastructure but toward its greater vision as a developer-friendly primitive for permissionless interoperability between blockchains of different paradigms.
Community Update: #1
Time for a community update on what we've been working on at @koanvm
After quietly building on Zcash infrastructure for around 2 years now, we're happy to finally share what Koan has been developing.
Bidirectional UTXO-to-EVM bridging with working atomic swaps between Zcash, Bitcoin and Litecoin, currently integrated with 16+ EVM networks including HyperEVM.
WALDO (our DevOps AI) handles node diagnostics and automated infrastructure management while our validators operate on Zcash testnet via heartbeat reporting.
Next phase involves further development of our omnichain world state system for confidential asset accounting with succinct verification across all chains.
We're building for a future where users control their privacy, giving everyone the choice between transparent and confidential transactions across all connected chains. Privacy when you want it, openness when you don't.
Thanks for following along as we build toward this vision.
