I appreciate the council trying to act to help low income tenants but this proposed measure is not the way. Would cost way more than a targeted PILOT

Last yr, JC's housing director negotiated a PILOT deal that would keep 160 low-income tenants in their homes. DSA-affiliated groups opposed it, & it was rejected. Now DSA is using the crisis they manufactured to push for rent control expansion that'd cost 10x more than the PILOT

I'm confused. The Portside Tenants Union led the campaign to get the PILOT supporting affordable housing in Newport to not be renewed last year, relying on a ChatGPT-hallucinated conspiracy theory that was 100% false. Now they've complaining about losing affordable housing there?

This part is insane too. The Portside Tenants Union sent up 20 people to oppose the abatement. Last night they were at the council standing alongside the Newport tenants they encouraged the council to displace. They are exploiting those poor tenants.
