Paalala lang na ilang dosenang riot at marahas na rali ang nangyari bago pumutok ang EDSA 1986. Remember Battle of Mendiola (1970, 1983). Remember Diliman Commune. Remember Arroceros stand-off. Remember Welcome Rotonda. Remember Ayala Avenue welgang bayan (October 1984). Etc etc.
in church rn and whispered to my 13 yr old brother that i’m bi for some reason, then he said, “it’s okay. you’re still my sister… unless you’re trans, then you’re my brother.” #thanksman
Grabe pala ‘yung displacement sa mga Lumad sa ginagawang Bukidnon airport. ‘Yung relocation site nila walang tubig, walang kuryente, tapos 3 hours away by foot ‘yung pinakamalapit na school. Ang lala nakakapanlumo.
It’s always those men who huddle together for “locker room” talks ‘no? It just so happens that * those * men were given a platform such as a podcast. Sila yan, speaking in hush tones vs women, vs PWDs, & vs LGBTQIAs. 1/
if you're kind and patient with strangers but lose your temper the moment you walk into your own house, you're performing for strangers while punishing the people who actually matter. If you're giving your best smile to your colleagues, but giving your tired version to your parents, you're saving your energy for people who will forget you tomorrow. If you're listening to everyone else's problems but have zero patience for the people who actually know you. You're seeking validation from the outside world instead of protecting the love you already have. You act your best for people who don't matter because you're afraid of what they think. But you give your family the leftovers, lower your efforts and mistake comfort for carelessness. Remember the world only loves you as long as you perform, but the people at home are the only ones who stay when the show is over.
You're picking the person who will be with you on the worst day of your life. The day you have to bury a parent, the day the doctor calls you to give you bad news, the day you lose the job, the day your dog that you've had for 14 years doesn't come home. That's who you're choosing. And still most people date like they're casting a movie. Do they give me butterflies? Are they exciting? Is their chemistry cool?Butterflies aren't gonna matter when life punches you in the face and when that day comes, you will not care how charming they were on the first date. You'll care whether they stayed, you'll care whether they showed up, you'll care if they made the effort and they made the unbearable feel bearable. The older I get, the less I'm asking myself if I want to spend a saturday night with this person, and the more I find myself asking, do I want this person to stand next to me when my life falls apart
the older you get, the more you realize that a lot of anxiety comes from trying to live in yesterday and tomorrow at the same time. you replay conversations that already happened, worry about situations that haven’t happened yet, and somehow expect yourself to solve your entire future while standing in the present. your mind stays busy, but your life stays still. you don’t need to figure everything out today. you don’t need to fix your entire life in one move. come back to what’s actually in front of you. handle today. take the next right step, then take another. sometimes peace isn’t found by finding all the answers. it comes from realizing you only have to deal with what’s in front of you right now.
how to heal your nervous system by actually letting yourself feel your emotions:
- stop trying to intellectualize every feeling. sometimes you literally just need to cry
- let yourself feel bad without immediately trying to turn it into a lesson
- move the emotion through your body. walk, stretch, shake, breathe, scream in the car
-stop treating sadness, anger + anxiety like proof something has gone wrong
- give yourself moments where you don’t have to be productive, positive or “healed”
- notice how much lighter you feel once you stop fighting what’s already there
- remind yourself that one bad moment doesn’t mean you’re suddenly on the wrong path
- let the emotion pass before you decide what it means about your life
life becomes so much more enjoyable when you start treating it like a game you’re actually allowed to play. think about that. you have free will, and far more choices than you probably realize. you can move somewhere new, learn something completely different, build something from nothing, change your environment, reinvent yourself, and become someone your current self wouldn’t even recognize.
a lot of the rules you think you have to follow were inherited from people who were also afraid to step outside them. you don’t have to spend your entire life playing by rules you never consciously chose.
dream bigger. want more for yourself. take the possibility of an extraordinary life seriously, even when it feels unrealistic.
because the life you keep imagining might not be as far away as you think. you may just have to stop asking for permission to go after it.
One day, your home will be empty, and someone will have to decide what to do with your things. They'll open your drawers. They'll find the watch you treasured so much, the car you spent three years paying off, and the clothes you saved for special occasions because you didn't want to wear them out. And they'll make three piles: what to sell, what to give away, and what to throw away. None of it goes with you. Not a single thing. The only thing that goes with you is that afternoon you stayed talking for hours and didn't even realize where the time went. The look on your mom's face when you showed up to visit her without telling her you were coming. Don't collect things... Collect moments with the people you love
