@chiltern_lane One solution is to outsource it to a freight or charter operator whilst something is worked out. We all know this issue goes away once money changes hands with Aslef in a pay deal.
@chiltern_lane It's because the DfT originally intended for EWR to be their own TOC - starting from scratch, rather than Chiltern with legacy union issues etc. They can't back down now as it will eventually affect all of EWR and costs will rocket with a guard.
@Guard_Amos@stuartthomas@LNER Hull Trains also have to use a convoluted method of working the train too, with hired in freight/charter staff through to Doncaster.
@Guard_Amos@stuartthomas@LNER Because there is zero capacity available for LNER - whereas Hull Trains has guaranteed and contractual paths in their track access agreement. LNER will only be able to divert via MML by removing other MML services.
@GarethDennis why are you now hiding your association and leadership of the @PWInstitution ? You were very keen to include this prominently in your profile when you decided to attack people with different views...
@ZakFarren@Ufandil@ExpThemePark There is absolutely zero chance of East Midlands stopping there by the way - but it will have a frequent GTR service towards London, West Mids and Chiltern too, albeit at a different site.
@morethn4char@notliamanders0n@NemesisUnicorn@EngCouncil@FBI Some trans people seem unable to have any sympathy that a large proportion of biological females have been victims of biological males - which a trans "woman" is. Why should a bio women have to put up with that just because someone believes they can somehow become a woman?
@morethn4char@notliamanders0n@NemesisUnicorn@EngCouncil@FBI It's harmful to some biological women to share spaces with biological males - that's the bit you're missing. Trans people may not intend that, but that's the reality. Trans people also appear to be disproportionately represented in sex crimes.
@morethn4char@notliamanders0n@NemesisUnicorn@EngCouncil@FBI Even most trans people do not advocate for the view that they biologically can change sex - they want recognition in their chosen gender, but exceptionally few insist that they actually change sex - it's an extreme and quite problematic view.
@morethn4char@notliamanders0n@NemesisUnicorn@EngCouncil@FBI Are you so blind that you can't see that the right to be gender critical is equal to the right to believe in the concept that a human can be trans? The vast majority of people in this world do not believe people can change sex - especially not biologically.
@Hrushworth@MarstonGareth@GarethDennis You've got open access operators having to use cascaded diesel trains all the way from London to Stirling because our premier mainline up the West Coast doesn't have enough electricity available. HS2 is going to make this significantly worse.
@Hrushworth@MarstonGareth@GarethDennis We can perhaps start to electrify new lines once we've got electricity available for existing routes, like Watford to London and Crewe to Liverpool/Warrington. Are people not realising that the UK simply doesn't have the infrastructure at present?
@waynetlc There's also secondary reasons around fraud prevention and revenue protection, and some (generally discounted) tickets / fares are only allowed to be used for specific reasons or in certain conditions.
@waynetlc Put the conspiracies aside - it's really useful data to know if someone is travelling for work, business, commuting, leisure, holiday etc - let's a train operator work out capacity requirements, trends, fares, timetables etc, what the on board service needs to focus on etc.
@railnews It reflects badly on Network Rail really that they've had no choice but to use unreliable diesel trains on the West Coast simply because there isn't enough electricity available! 350/2s could have been refurbished instead for this low cost kind of route and faster acceleration.
@ttangfastics It's also important for some disabled people - as it gives staff a chance to proactively spot them on entry to the station and offer assistance or redirect them to more accessible parts of the station etc. It's not just about fare collection at all.
@ttangfastics You can't do that because avoiding your fare is a criminal offence, (not just one law either), and you cannot encourage, aid or facilitate somebody else to commit an offence. Second, the gates are used for safety to slow down entry/exit - and part of the fire precautions.
@sinton_alison I really don't understand the union position here - almost all unions have the same sort of statement too, but it's not a popular policy amongst most of their membership - it's loud, fringe elements but in truly tiny proportions - essentially promoting unlawful policies.
@AnarchyApe@notliamanders0n I'm pretty sure most sane people in America also don't have that unusual belief either - right up to the highest elected politician in your country. Believe what you like though, free world, just don't impose it on others or threaten people for having a different view.
@AnarchyApe@notliamanders0n English isn't my daily language here regardless- but fortunately the laws that apply to the entire of the UK mean that we don't have to be scared to go along with the insane belief that trans women are or can become biological women, like magic.
