Please see the below statement from Board of Police Commissioners President Chris Saracino.
Public safety should never become a political tug-of-war. The #SLMPD remains focused on protecting and serving the people of #STL.
@Jcalliott11@MitchellMcCoy I think Mitch McCoy’s original post still stands. If the Juvenile Detention Facility releases the juvenile to a family member, there’s nothing more police can do. Police do not decide who gets released and who gets held. Thats the court system.
@PoliceThePolic1 That’s a misleading question. Changes to LE needs to be made, but can’t happen without honest conversations. Qualified immunity doesn’t mean LE can break the law without consequences.
@Praetorius42@PoliceThePolic1 That’s a fair point but most people don’t realize that most employers pay that insurance premium for the employee or raise compensation to offset that cost. I don’t think many people would be in favor of raising taxes to offset the higher pay. That’s the reality.
@BlitzenDon94929@PoliceThePolic1 Sorry, just want to understand your viewpoint. If I understand you correctly, you’re saying 99% of police officers are “bad?”
@dudeabides91001 And you’re an idiot. My post wasn’t referring to the validity of the investigation. It was referencing the term “flight risk” and how it was used in the wrong context. Your English comprehension is horrendous. Go touch grass
@Joel32272266 I have no idea why Jack Smith conducted his investigation or if the investigation had any merit. That was the point of my post. My point was Rep. Gill used the term “flight risk” in the wrong context regardless of the validity of the investigation.
@Baghdad_Bob1955 Honestly? I have 0 clue. I have no idea why the investigation was conducted, right or wrong. I dislike the Democrat Party and Republican Party equally. Both parties are a joke. Each side just wants power and money, IMO, and don’t care how they get it.
@Beganovic2026 The city doesn’t want to pay best. If they wanted to, they could, but they don’t. Ask your former mayor you championed for so bad. She refused to come to the table until she was forced and the new(ish) Mayor was the way. It politically bad for them to support the police.
@Beganovic2026 Like I said, quick Google search. But I believe the point was made, you’re simply not taking into account other factors that could cause an increase (or decrease) in SLMPD staffing.
@makecitiesgreat I’ve already been inside a few brand new units. Less than a few months old and it was already trashed. They will need to be patched, deep cleaned, floors replaced, kitchen replaced. This is the norm. Not the exception. Waste of money.
@makecitiesgreat It’s 100% to stop the teen takeovers, the drug dealers, gang violence, etc. that will occur if nobody is watching. If they close because of that, people will complain the city didn’t do enough. Or there’s nothing to do. At some point, people need to police themselves
@Beganovic2026 The graphic doesn’t take into calls for service, the types of crimes (homicides, shootings, robberies, etc.) that generally take more man power. It’s not an apples for apples type situation. Quick Google search says SLMPD 800k calls/yr. Springfield =125k, KC = 300k
@makecitiesgreat I think you are absolutely correct in your take. The return on investment of the money being allocated for North City will be near 0. Most of that money will be mismanaged or fraudulently obtained by lord only knows. Again, the city is wasting millions.
