The incident @ajeetbharti ji talked about today is true.
The RSS chief Shri Mohan Bhagwat ji did say, “Humne Hinduo ko bachane ka theka thode le rakha hai” while responding to his question about atrocities against Hindus in West Bengal. I was also present there.

But here is the full context : Mohan Bhagwat ji was referring to an incident from the time of Guruji.
During Guruji’s time, some people approached him and complained that a few miscreants had attacked them and misbehaved with women in their locality. They requested protection.
Guruji asked them, “How many attackers were there?”
They replied, “Two or three.”
He then asked, “And how many of you are there?”
They said, “We are many families.”
To this, Guruji responded, “Humne theka nahi le rakha hai.”
He further explained that the Sangh does not create goons in its shakhas to fight on someone’s behalf. If you are greater in number, unite and teach them a lesson yourselves. Why depend on outsiders?

This story is well known in RSS circles. It is narrated to convey a clear message: do not become dependent on others for protection. Unite as a society and stand together...
The very concept of a Shakha is to unite Hindus across all sections of society. If a mohalla stands united against any intruder, that unity itself reflects the spirit of a shakha...

So it's not that RSS chose to abandon Hindus, they want them to unite and fight back but when someone is in real trouble, RSS always helps them, don't leave them on their own.
But before helping, they want them to encourage them to gather the strength and fight back on their own.
