Thought-provoking and thoroughly impressive interview with Maj Gen Nanson. Truly an inspiring officer, have been lucky enough to sit across from him at a Regimental dinner and discuss low-level leadership in the modern Army. Hoping he is still Commandant RMAS when I return!

Of course there are many who rightfully criticise the video due to Army’s apolitical stance, but as social media becomes an echo chamber for views similar to our own, individuals should take care not to fan an extremist flame w/ such comments. ‘Humour’ isn’t a good enough excuse.

Also concerning re: Corbyn range video is the slew of online comments along the lines of “if only it were real/good job!” Not implying mass radicalisation/intent to take action, but enforces dangerous climate which could easily encourage ‘lone wolf’ political attacks like 2016.

@DeanoWilso @ArmySgtMajor I think reactions to ‘Snowflake’ posters showed concerns in that regard, esp. in combat arm- sensing disconnect w/ popular ideas of the kind of soldier the Army wants. But def priority is being squared away by CoC re: pay/pensions etc., or at least feeling like they have a say.

A change of tack from Army recruitment: perhaps a response to adverse reactions amongst serving personnel to ‘Snowflake’ campaign? Certainly seems to have gone down better within that group. Solid compromise as current #YourArmyNeedsYou has definitely struck a nerve within youth.

@DeanoWilso 2/2 Issue of retention likely rests upon breaking perception amongst soldiers that their mentality & service is misunderstood/under-appreciated by society & CoC. V promising to see steps to change this by @ArmySgtMajor and greater engagement w/ troops on social media re: issues.

@DeanoWilso 1/ Agreed. Army has a much more difficult recruiting task than other services imo, and meeting the expectations of current/ex serving as well as new generation of soldier has been misbalanced in the past. If this is a coordinated dual approach then will def see positive results.
