✴️ Announcing the 2026 ANS Annual Conference theme: Net Out and Power Up!
👨🔬 Inspired by the revolutionary ideas behind nuclear fission and fusion, this year's conference will feature the minds powering nuclear's net breakthroughs. Through plenaries, executive sessions, hands-on workshops, and more, the 2026 ANS Annual Conference will elevate and inspire new ideas on how commercial advanced nuclear systems to can deliver real value.

“Criticality is a starting line, not a finish line. The work ahead is scaling up, both the reactors themselves and the professors, students, and skilled workers we need to build and operate the next generation of reactors. The American Nuclear Society is committed to helping build both."
NWS eradication was a remarkable accomplishment of science at scale and required close international cooperation. With re-introduction of screwworms north of the Darian Gap in 2022 followed by Central America, Mexico, and now the U.S. in 2026, we will see if we can do it again. We can do it again if we marshal the political will.
Big moment at #ANSAnnual2026: Urenco’s Sarah Riedel shared our NM expansion plan & the room broke into spontaneous cheers.👏👏
✅nuclear growth is accelerating
🔑action across the fuel cycle is key
We’re expanding ~50% to support demand, fuel security, & a resilient supply chain.
We eradicated the New World screwworm from North America once thanks to nuclear science — and we can do it again! Now we're scaling our sterile insect technique (SIT) capacity back up with three forms of radiation: cobalt-60 gamma, X-rays, and electron beams.⚛️

OPERATION SCREWWORM: From the @TSCRA's January 1955 issue of The Cattleman, a look at early sterile fly experiments to eliminate NWS.
"This pilot research may break the way for the much bigger job of driving the screwworm out of the southeastern United States."
Let's hear it for H.M. "Hash" Hashemian of @AMS_corporation! 👏 Today wraps his 2025–2026 ANS presidency as he passes the gavel. Thank you for a great year, Hash.⚛️And a big welcome to Mark Peters of @MITREcorp as our 2026-27 ANS President — we're excited for the year ahead!
Great callout by @jakedewitte:
Nuclear "waste" in America has roughly as much energy potential as ALL known oil reserves. Globally.
Nuclear waste is not waste.

Our Chairman Nieh delivered the keynote address yesterday at the @ANS_org Annual Conference. He highlighted our commitment and significant reform efforts to enable the rapid and safe deployment of advanced nuclear technologies through credible, predictable, and timely regulation.
So much optimism about the future of nuclear fuel shared by these 4 CEOs (@LightbridgeCorp, @Orano_usa, @urencousa, & @centrus) during the “Fueling the Nuclear Resurgence” panel discussion this morning at @ANS_org 2026 Annual Conference.
Congratulations to ANS's newest Fellows, national award winners, and Presidential Citation recipients! We're proud to recognize your outstanding contributions to nuclear science and technology. ⚛️👏

"Let's keep an open mind [in the nuclear sector]," said Amy Roma, partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and general chair of the 2026 ANS Annual Conference. "People are going to have different and innovative ways of doing things, and we should embrace the change and the disruption. For the new companies — we love your optimism, we love your enthusiasm, we love the fact that you're not jaded by the experiences of the past. But listen to the things that we're saying, because they can inform your business model and help you prevent the bottlenecks I've been describing. We've never been in such an exciting moment in our industry." https://t.co/N4HwYOXS9p
"There's a new NRC that has emerged — one that enables the safe use of nuclear technologies," said @NRCgov Chair Ho Nieh in keynote remarks at the 2026 ANS Annual Conference in Denver. "Enabling is not a shortcut. It's not a compromise. Enabling is how the NRC fulfills its safety mission and delivers benefit to America. We finalized Part 53 twenty-one months ahead of schedule. We issued a construction permit for a commercial advanced non-light water reactor nine months ahead of schedule. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what a disciplined enabling regulator looks like." https://t.co/N4HwYOXS9p
"It's not fission versus fusion — it's fission and fusion," said ANS CEO Craig Piercy while he opened the 2026 ANS Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado. "Sometimes moving at different speeds, sometimes solving different problems, but always moving toward the same destination. And that destination matters because the world is counting on us, whether it knows it or not." #nuclear https://t.co/N4HwYOXS9p
Fortunate that the @ANS_org 2026 Annual Conference is in my city this week. @NRCgov Chairman Ho Nieh gave a rousing keynote regarding US potential to be THE global leader in nuclear once again.
How will we fuel the nuclear resurgence?
CEO Seth Grae will join an all-star plenary to take on this very topic at the ANS Annual Conference on June 2 including:
✅Amir Vexler, CEO of @centrus_energy
✅Jean-Luc Palayer, CEO of @Orano_usa
✅Sarah Riedel, CEO of @urencousa
✅Moderated by Craig Piercy, CEO of @ANS_org
They will discuss how to ensure the availability of reliable #nuclearfuel, including enrichment, fabrication, and #advancednuclear fuel, needed to bring new nuclear facilities online.
