While political theatrics & headlines dominate the airwaves at Jantar Mantar, a different revolution, 1 quietly rewriting the laws of global manufacturing is unfolding inside a lab in BLR

Here is the story of how an Indian deep-tech startup, CynLr, is building the future of robotics & why it holds immense strategic importance for the country.

For half a century, the global robotics industry suffered from a quiet, embarrassing secret. If we wanted a robot arm in Germany/Japan/USA to pick up a single metallic bolt, we had to spent months write custom code, build rigid mechanical jigs & train complex AI models with 1000s of 3D CAD images.

- Today, 90% of manufacturing tasks worldwide remain manual because traditional robots cannot handle non-standardized, varying objects. By granting robots "baby-like intuition," CynLr enables assembly lines to handle 1000s of different parts w/o requiring custom fixtures or months of re-engineering.

- Imagine a single manufacturing plant that assembles electric vehicles today, smartphones tomorrow & medical devices the day after, reconfigured entirely through software rather than physical overhauls. This shift from hardware-defined lines to software-defined automation is the key to making decentralized manufacturing scalable.

- Instead of competing solely on low-cost manual labor, Indian deep-tech is positioning itself to supply the cognitive hardware backbone for global giants like Audi, GM & DENSO.

Harsh Dubey - No. I've been giving the NEET exam for four years and every time I touch the boundary, I fail. Modi ji is talking to Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi and CJP, who don't even know the 'N' of NEET. These are people born with a silver spoon. How will they know the pain of a poor general category boy who is struggling to get a job?

A boy from Delhi gets a medical seat at 570. A boy from Chhattisgarh gets a medical seat at 540. They have divided us even by states, and then they talk about Akhand Bharat.

Then he questioned all the MPs standing there to "Tell me how many marks are needed for a Maharashtra boy to get a seat."

None of them knew the answer.

He proudly said that all these ministers know nothing about NEET or its education system. "Talk to students like me. We know what the problem is."

Finally someone is representing the pain of a GC student. It's not his fight, it's our fight 🥹🙏

Don’t know about Rang De Basanti, but let me tell you what some of us millennials actually grew up watching.

I was in primary school during the 1993 Mumbai bombings -- too young to even understand what terrorism meant. But I distinctly remember my mom repeatedly warning me not to pick up anything lying around while playing outside because, you know, it could be a bomb.

That was childhood.

Then came the seemingly endless procession of attacks: the 1993 Mumbai blasts, Red Fort in 2000, Parliament in 2001, the Mumbai bus bombings and Akshardham in 2002, three separate blasts within eight months in Mumbai in 2003, the 2005 Delhi blasts, the 2007 Hyderabad bombings, and the 2008 Bangalore and Ahmedabad blasts.

In July 2006, I was supposed to be on one of the trains that was bombed near Mahim. I stayed back at the office because of a meeting. A completely mundane change of plans is probably the reason I’m alive to type this instead of being a name on a list of the dead.

I remember that evening far better than I remember any stupid movie. Our office went into lockdown. Phones were jammed. People were crying and frantically trying to reach their families. Nobody knew what was happening, whether there were more bombs, or whether someone they loved was lying dead inside a mangled train compartment.

Two years later came 26/11.

I had the misfortune of watching uncensored footage of the aftermath. One clip showed bodies being piled and stacked inside a makeshift room at CST while someone wheeled in another load on a bloodied wheelbarrow, with blood dripping onto the floor. The sanitised footage shown on television didn't come remotely close to what actually happened inside that station.

So yes, us millennials lived through an era where we went to work knowing that the crime of simply boarding the wrong train, getting on the wrong bus, eating at the wrong restaurant, or standing on the wrong street at the wrong fucking moment could get you blown to pieces or riddled with bullets.

Some of us literally went to work wondering, somewhere at the back of our minds, whether this would be the commute we wouldn't come home from.

So please, spare us millennials this sanctimonious horseshit about Rang De Basanti and what some Bollywood movie supposedly should have taught us about how to vote.

The internet was busy debating jantar Mantar & a quiet facility in India witnessed something straight out of science fiction. An engine fired up. But it did not hum & it did not roar like a normal jet.

It detonated. Continuous supersonic shockwaves raced around a circular chamber 1000s of times/sec, harnessing controlled explosions to generate thrust.

The startup D-Propulse just gave the world a sneak peek of their air-breathing Rotating Detonation Engine (RDE) with an integrated aerospike nozzle.

Every jet engine on a commercial airliner, every fighter jet & every rocket we have ever seen operates on deflagration. We mix fuel with air/oxygen, ignite it & it burns relatively slowly at subsonic speeds. It is effective, but humanity has pushed this tech to its absolute physical limits.

RDEs throw that century-old playbook into the fire. Instead of burning fuel smoothly, an RDE explodes it intentionally. A continuous detonation wave sweeps around an annular (ring-shaped) channel at supersonic speeds, reaching over 2000 m/s. This is called Pressure-Gain Combustion.

It extracts 15-25% more thermal efficiency out of the exact same amount of fuel. In the world of high-speed flight, a 25% jump in efficiency is a completely different league.

Why this Matters for India?

For decades, the narrative surrounding Indian engineering was tied to catching up on legacy systems, spending billions trying to replicate 1970s turbofan engine metallurgy/importing critical defense tech.

D-Propulse is proving that India does not need to play catch-up anymore.

By leapfrogging straight to Pressure-Gain Combustion, an Indian deep-tech startup, guided by veteran scientists & built by young engineers is standing on the frontlines alongside research labs in the US, Japan & China.

Imagine hypersonic cruise missiles, ultra-long-range combat drones & spaceplanes that do not need heavy, complex moving turbopumps to break speed records. That is the realm this technology unlocks.

The future does not belong to those who build better versions of old machines. It belongs to those who rewrite the physics of how machines work.

As the buzz around the Jantar Mantar protest dies down, Madhya Pradesh is back in the news.

SDM Ram Niwas of Panna district ordered two mobile covers worth ₹120 from Flipkart.

When the delivery boy arrived with the sealed package, the SDM opened it and found only one mobile cover instead of two. Rather than raising a complaint with Flipkart, he allegedly abused the delivery boy and demanded an immediate refund.

The delivery boy dared to tell His Lordship that that's not how e-commerce works. He explained that the parcel was sealed, that it was likely a packing or logistics error, and that the proper course was to raise a complaint with Flipkart, which would handle the resolution through its return process.

His Lordship took offense at being told how the process worked. He allegedly called the police, and the delivery boy was reportedly arrested under Section 151 of the BNSS.

Thanks @ShivAroor for finding this gem of a young man. Good that you didn't stop him with "fair enough" raag. He was respectful but forceful. Pain could reach all of us. This kind of youth needs to be nurtured. Not abusive vile violent gangs roaming the streets.
