Clerk in holy orders. Views my own. Bibliophile, lover of history, church crawler. Offers unwanted theological & ecclesiastical advice to Corrie & Emmerdale.
@P_G_Anderson I hope he listens now. Today he has basked in the glory of the PLP, but this Coronation might not sit well with a disenchanted electorate, especially if he is similarly constrained by geopolitics and systemic factors.
It’s just a constant round of things seemingly designed to discourage anyone with a heart, a soul or a brain from staying. All of which makes me more determined to never leave and be as awkward as possible.
Thanks to @Docstockk for this considered, thoroughly learned, and yet accessible book. A demolition job on the dystopian future that is being proposed to us. Keep raging.
@northumbriana According to the commentators the whole game was a brilliant advertisement for the Premier League! I thought it showed that the standard of refereeing is appalling and VAR is a complete dog's dinner and should be scrapped. I'm trying to think when I was that mad watching footy.
@holland_tom if you're going to Wirral you should come to Chester: Roman fort, Æthelflæd' burh, King Edgar's Council, medieval shrine, (almost) complete city walls, castle, Civil War siege, Victorian architecture ... puts Chatham High St in a cocked hat! @dcsandbrook
An evening of farewell and thanks to the Lord Mayor of Chester, and a look round the Lord Mayor's Parlour. A portrait of a Sheriff who had 26 children, and @holland_tom book on Aethelflaed.
I suspect this will appeal more to @holland_tom and not the rational @dcsandbrook but ... King Harold did not die! He escaped to live as a hermit, here in Chester! And if you doubt it, someone even saw his ghost which spoke in Anglo-Saxon! @TheRestHistory https://t.co/Qq0wDXwblY
