Hello. This is where I actually tweet, because if brevity is the soul of wit, then twitter is wit on a starvation diet due to our collective attention span.
Glenn Miller and his orchestra perform “In the Mood” in Sun Valley Serenade (1941), delivering one of the defining musical moments of the swing era. The tight brass, unforgettable saxophone melody, and effortless chemistry between the musicians show exactly why this performance has stood the test of time.
Originally recorded in 1939, “In the Mood” became Glenn Miller’s signature hit and helped define an entire generation of American music. Decades later, the recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, added to the National Recording Registry, and recognised by NPR as one of the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century.
Happy 80th birthday to my friend George W. Bush!
Your friendship—and that of your father and your entire family—has been one of the great gifts of my life. It has always reminded me that long before we’re politicians, we’re fellow Americans and, above all, human beings.
And for the next month, I’m especially grateful to finally have someone older than me! Wishing you many more years of good health, happiness, and friendship.
Our country is stronger when we remember that what unites us is greater than what divides us.
Last year, Microsoft made $101 billion in profits, got a $12.5 billion tax break from Trump & paid its CEO $96 million.
This year, it’s raising the price of an Xbox by $150 & eliminating 3,200 jobs.
Please don’t tell me corporate tax breaks create jobs. It never trickles down.
What many call the best Film noir of all -"Double Indemnity" premiered July 3, 1944...
Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray & Edward G Robinson teamed up in Billy Wilder's masterpiece that has stood the test of time.
Are you a fan of this marvelous noir?
There is a record-breaking heat wave in Europe and hundreds are dying.
There is drought all across America and farmers are going out of business. Yet, Trump thinks climate change is a “hoax” and cuts funding for sustainable energy.
Insane. He is threatening the very future of our planet.
@AnthonyStarke I love that you share these. Movies from the 40 through early 60s are some of my favorite and I love seeing actors from these golden ages like this. Makes me smile. Do you have a favorite movie from that time period?
It will be at least 40 years before our loved and lovely America recovers from the wounds this selfish, stupid, and ego-driven man has inflicted. That it will recover seems certain to me, but it will leave scars.
Nobody is vandalizing the Reflecting Pool, and Trump knows it. This is a visible example of his corruption--a no-bid contract to some crony followed by sky-high cost overruns, and shoddy construction to boot. Classic Trump: I didn't fuck up, it was my enemies.
Barack: You told me all those years ago that you couldn’t promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life. Of course, you outdid yourself and managed to give me both.
Eight years in the crucible, and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence: your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber.
I appeared in over 60 films just in the 1930s. After another decade of film, I also appeared on Broadway, where I won a Tony... My career never stalled, but in my older years I became known to another entire generation from a film where I made a rather famous bet that came back to bite me.
Who Am I?
I was one of the very first "scream queens" of early film... and years later, here I am, looking out over the city that became an important part of my best-known film.
