There's this weird dynamic at VC events where it feels like everyone is competing to see who can care the least. The more indifferent you act, the cooler you seem. And somehow, the more arrogant or dismissive you are, the more important people perceive you to be. I've always found that a bit strange.
@MKBHD I’m not. Will use SpaceX cold gas thruster system with ultra high pressure air in a composite over-wrapped pressure vessel in place of the 2 rear seats.
@lukas_m_ziegler Government contracts, subsidies, customer loyalty, automation, investment in core innovation, and leadership changes. These companies either have to go through hell and innovate or simply die out.
@GlennLuk It's hard to compete with China now, either on cost or productivity, people have different mindsets, and to compete, we'll need to wait a few generations. Good times create lazy people.
And COVID made it worse - rapid growth led to rapid promotions based on little merit. And that's probably fine when people are less competent, but it becomes a real problem when those same people start shaping a culture that prevents more capable and talented individuals from succeeding. I think that's one of the main reasons companies degrade over time, you can see many examples of that
What's interesting is that when you live in a society with very strict social norms - which often reflect economic stagnation, where there isn't enough room for everyone to grow, and society develops increasingly elaborate mechanisms of competition and control that eventually shape even the most subtle behaviors - you quickly grow to resent those constraints and seek greater freedom.
But when you live in a society where social norms have largely disappeared or are no longer enforced, you begin to realize that shared expectations and even social pressure can be healthy and necessary - not only for society to function, but also for individuals to grow and evolve.
@masayoshisson And they do have incredible distribution opportunities (like a dedicated social network lol), government support, and crazy amounts of money invested

most joyous product I've built so far.
enjoy!!!
People moved to cities not because they were pleasant, but because of job opportunities, networking, and often because they had no other choice. Living in a big city sucks - crime, pollution, lack of space, and high prices
This is wild...
There’s a farmhouse on top of a building in the West Village in NYC, and it just listed for $10.5 million.
Porch. Garden beds. A vegetable patch. City skyline instead of a backyard.
The penthouse at 719 Greenwich Street.
@MelindaBChu1 It’s a bit unfair, right? You get high valuations not because you can build, ship, and iterate quickly, but because of access to capital and nepotism. Check their core team - you’ll see people who spent their careers in banking and now “manage” eng teams.
@cixliv@REK Go for it! You could just travel there, join the Robotics Happy Hour for drinks, and see if you like the city vibe! Adrian Brandemuehl is organizing one, my takeaway is that people are nice and love what they’re doing.
We did shut downsizing dev (doubling the subscription) because
- providers fight routers, for example, Claude signs commands with its private keys, so you can’t effectively route between providers back and forth
- Quality and stability matter much more than cost savings to the customers we’ve spoken to
- When you route, you break the cache, which makes it financially unfeasible in many cases
But maybe you guys will find a way through!
@daltonc
@HNilsonne @Neko Any thoughts on countering Midjourney Scanner? These guys are scanning people inside out, and it seems to be a solid offering? (Though, to be fair, it hasn’t launched yet)
@alexandr_wang Hardcore engineering, good vibes, building and shipping things non-stop - if that’s what brings you joy, you just don’t care about dressing up
If you care about Europe's future and robotics, and genuinely enjoy building things and solving problems that haven't been solved yet, you should try to join UMA.
I had a chance to visit the team recently, and I think what they're building is simply mind-blowing.
What are the most difficult tasks for robots today? I talk about that with JB, Steve, Medhi, and about all kind of stuff related to Humanoid robots, dexterity, fleet learning. Check this out 😇

@visegrad24 The EU must reform. It's not only about laws, but also about people's mindsets. We must not be afraid of making mistakes, experimenting, and trying new things. Innovation should be encouraged, not just safety and preservation
