Supreme Court is finally hearing petitions challenging the law on appointment of election commissioners. The matter has been pending in the SC since January 2024. In the meantime, current CEC, Gyanesh Kumar, and 2 Election Commmioners were appointed.

After the Constitution bench judgment in the Anoop Baranwal case in 2023, the BJP govt had brought the law to replace the CJI with a cabinet minister on the selection panel for appointing Election Commissioners. With a 2:1 majority, the law empowers the ruling party to select candidates of its choice as Chief & commissioners of the ECI. Hope the SC upholds the letter and spirit of its landmark 2023 judgment.

Draft Electoral Roll in Bihar conceals more than it reveals.

Here is why: It is virtually impossible to compare the current Draft Rolls with the earlier list due to expansion of booths (a valid exercise in itself) and resultant large scale shifting of names from one booth to another. EC has not released the list of names who figured on earlier list but not in today’s Draft Rolls. Even if you somehow manage to deduce the names by physically comparing all names of several booths, there is no way you can identify those names that the EC had marked as deceased, permanently migrated, untraceable etc.
So you simply cannot verify the EC’s claims!

बिहार में ‘सिर’फिरी प्रक्रिया के नाम पर लोकतंत्र से फ़र्ज़ीवाड़ा हो रहा है।

EC का SIR यानी “विशेष गहन पुनरीक्षण” दरअसल मतदाता सूची को शून्य से दोबारा बनाने की कवायद है।
जिसने 20 सालों में दर्जनों बार वोट डाला, उसे अब फिर से साबित करना होगा कि वह नागरिक है।

▪️2003 की लिस्ट को आधार क्यों माना गया?
▪️अब राज्य नहीं, नागरिक को साबित करना है कि वह वोटर है।
▪️आधार, राशन कार्ड, EPIC — यहां तक कि चुनाव आयोग का अपना पहचान पत्र तक अमान्य!

लाखों लोगों ने फॉर्म नहीं भरे, फिर भी आंकड़ों में ‘भरा हुआ’ दिखाया गया। दस्तावेज़, फ़ोटो, हस्ताक्षर तक गायब — लेकिन आयोग का दावा है कि प्रक्रिया सफल है।

बिहार सिर्फ़ पहली प्रयोगशाला है। यह सिरफिरी प्रणाली पूरे देश पर थोपने की तैयारी है।

अगर वोट देना अधिकार है, तो ऐसे फ़र्ज़ी आदेशों से इसे बचाना होगा।
