I really wish #HamOnt was serious about housing reform. Hamilton's low density 4plex zoning maxes out at 10.5m, while Waterloo just approved 13.5m. reducing restrictions to building more housing: https://t.co/L3SRsMS35z
The day has arrived.
45 years after pedestrians were first barricaded from crossing the street at Winnipeg’s storied Portage and Main intersection, the concrete walls have finally started coming down.
The Ontario Conservatives have a rich history of transportation policy failures including:
-Filling in an under construction subway
-Selling a massive highway (now worth $30+B for $3B)
And now, tearing out one of the continents best bike networks.
@JohnPaulDanko can't believe I have to say this but nobody lives in a tent in November due to things people say online in your mentions! and lying to your constituents won't make you any less culpable in trampling their rights
once again, shocked but not at all surprised by how low you'll go.
To all the haters and losers (of which, sadly, there are many) who say "we can't have lifesaving bike lanes in Toronto because we get six months of winter" - it's the end of November, and hundreds of people came out to ride in memory of two cyclists killed by drivers. #bikeTO
@lafylarry@ArfinNathaniel exactly, and since there is nothing we could do about the loan amount needed, and definitely not 55 things we could do about that, it's not Doug's fault.
Pasternak asks if it makes sense for young people to vote on things like speed bumps when they don't drive. Transportation GM says Council recently waived polling requirements for traffic calming, so it's not really relevant. (But also, 16 year olds can drive!)
@JohnPaulDanko@fordnation with absolutely no respect at all, the people advocating for the rights of the unhoused *are not making you do anything*.
when you vote to enact policies that take away people's human rights, that's just you being your awful self
not the first time danko has made this leap: "it's actually all the people who disagree with me who are making this necessary".
once again shocked but not at all surprised by how low @JohnPaulDanko will go
Requesting @fordnation use of the notwithstanding clause to temporarily overrule the Charter is a very serious decision for #HamOnt
Unfortunately, encampment supporters have left Ontario municipalities little choice to ensure resident's rights are respected.
Letter from CEO of Sinai Health (Mount Sinai hospital etc.) noting that the *majority* of their employees cycle to work, and they want protected bike lanes (Mount Sinai hospital is on University Ave.) https://t.co/QxKFJWRo7i (PDF) h/t @GraphicMatt
I just got back from Gore Park where a heritage building collapsed due to neglect by its owners. I spoke with the Fire Chief who said they need to investigate the structure to determine next steps. They have done some fly overs with drones but need to excavate to be sure. #HamOnt
It started out 2 Fridays ago as a meme,
last Friday it became a movement (now with detractors). Apparently around 600,000-400,000 people from all over China on Friday and Saturday night (Oct 8 and 9) came to Zhengzhou and sharebiked from Zhengzhou to Kaifeng to... (a thread)
if you've been on the fence about bluesky, this weekend has been a huge turning point. a lot of urbanist, cycling, energy ppl showing up over there as they realize that hanging out on a white supremacist site owned by Trump's closest billionaire friend isn't fun
