Dean Smith died on this day in 2015 at the age of 83. Coach Williams said it best. "Dean Smith was the greatest there ever was on the court but far, far better off the court."
Never forget that upon his death, letters were mailed to all of his former lettermen. Included in the letter was a check for $200 with the message "Enjoy a dinner out compliments of Coach Dean Smith."
I will never hear that story without smiling and wiping a tear.
