In 2018 when Uhuru wanted a handshake with Raila Odinga, he first reached out to his elder brother Oburu Odinga and in 2024 when Ruto also wanted to have talks with Baba on the broad-based arrangements, he first reached out to Oburu. He appears clueless but he was the kitchen cabinet of Raila and ODM.

This was confirmed by Mama Ida who said that Raila loved and respected Dr. Oburu so much something that we must emulate. Raila respected Oburu as his elder brother so much especially when it came to matters family. Oburu on his part, said how he respected Raila when it came to politics so much and that is how it should be.

The handshake between Raila Odinga and President Ruto and the earlier one between Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta differ in a large measure. I will sum it thus: for the Uhuru handshake, “Raila the person” was in government but “Raila the institution” was not. ....

For two years, Ida Odinga tolerated a stranger in her compound in the name of a watchman. Peter, whom intelligence reports identified as a military soldier from Lang’ata Barracks/DoD, was allegedly picked (or, to be precise, hired) by J.O. Odinga and S.K. Macharia through internal arrangements. Macharia is who Peter referred to as "a friend."

Remember that during the 1982 coup attempt, there was a soldier who singlehandedly derailed the plot. His name is Gen. Mohamud Haji Mohamed Barrow. At the time of these happenings, he was in charge of Ulinzi House (DoD), having taken over from Gen. Jackson Mulinge. As a soldier and a disciplined officer, he was concerned about the events unfolding at the time.

When approached by S.K. Macharia, undisclosed accounts suggest that he was willing to offer protection. He therefore assigned Maj. Peter Okoth from the DoD protection desk.

As for the money, that was hardly an issue. S.K. Macharia was reportedly the sole manufacturer and supplier of tissue paper in the country and parts of Uganda through his company, Madhupaper Kenya International Ltd., whose brand is now Rosy Tissue. J.O. Odinga was also wealthy and had friends who were interested in the Second Liberation.
