Earlier today, I joined the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, and other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the 2026 International Youth Day programme held at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja.

The programme, organised around the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” provided an important platform to reflect on the realities, aspirations and future of young people, particularly Nigerian students and youths.

In my goodwill message, I emphasised that, despite our different backgrounds, locations and economic circumstances, the greatest common aspiration among Nigerian young people is the desire for equal opportunities to build meaningful and prosperous futures.

Every day, I interact with Nigerian students and young people, and I see firsthand their determination to succeed. They want access to quality education, gainful employment, opportunities to develop their talents and an enabling environment where hard work can translate into success.

Our backgrounds, geography or financial circumstances should never determine how far a young Nigerian can go. We must continue to build a more equitable and just society where every young person has the opportunity to explore and showcase their latent potential.

I commend the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for this laudable initiative and, more importantly, for identifying with Nigerian youths and students. This is a strong demonstration that the Police recognises young people as critical stakeholders in the present and future of our country.

For me, this programme is particularly significant because it is the first of its kind, providing a dedicated platform for the Nigeria Police Force to engage young Nigerians around their aspirations, challenges and contributions to nation-building.

I believe initiatives of this nature will deepen trust, understanding and collaboration between the Police and the younger generation. As NANS President, I remain committed to strengthening partnerships that advance the welfare, security, education and development of Nigerian students and young people.

Different contexts, indeed, but common aspirations. Our responsibility is to ensure that every young Nigerian has a fair opportunity to succeed.
