Finally a decent footpath in #Delhi! Though it’s only a 250 m stretch in Vasant Kunj. How hard is it to replicate this in the rest of the city? @gargiiishukla@aaditya_writes met a reader & urban planning expert @apaartybans for this video! Do watch.
Check out an article @santfdz and I wrote introducing a project I worked on when I was at ITDP in Mexico City. Happy to see how much the tool has advanced since I left Mexico, and excited to advance the conversation on transport accessibility!

Love the content they’ve been posting from Delhi, a city full of cyclists, pedestrians, and bus riders, but that puts these people last when designing streets.
Making up 5% of traffic, Delhi’s ‘invisible cyclists’ pedal defiantly in a city that has long forgotten their plight.
Their voices remain unheard in the mobility disucssion, which is directed toward the growing middle class. Surely, they deserve the dignity of safe streets, too.
Bus riders and cyclists on University Ave in #theBronx will soon get a smoother ride in new bus lanes and a two-way #BikeNYC lane slated for completion this fall!

Meet Sarah, the Assistant Director of Bus Priority and Co-chair of our LGBTQIA Employee Resource Group at NYC DOT.
Walkable cities begin with walkable neighborhoods. In the 2 pics below, one from Gurgaon and the other from London, both streets have roughly 40 ft b/w property lines, but one is obviously more walkable. We can't expect home-based walk trips if our neighborhoods look like this.
Glad to see this, as they def act as proof of concepts and before/after pics are politically useful, but instead of these mega overhauls on small corridors, I'd like to see small improvements on a large scale.

I'm talking about continuous footpaths with lower consistent curb heights, inclined ramps at crossings, pruned trees that block pedestrian flow, bulb outs at crossings, etc. We have not mastered these basics yet, but we are trying to build fancy corridors.
New York City is the New Delhi of America.
I'm so proud to have so many representatives of our Indian community serving in my administration.
Happy #IndianIndependenceDay!

Important to keep in mind how trees and plants impact street designs. I assisted the Forestry dept to identify trees that need to be pruned for buses to use their new curbside lane on University Ave in the Bronx.
Called a meeting last week of the many DOT units required to redesign an intersection for bus and bike improvements. Had reps from roadway milling & paving, sidewalk concrete, traffic signal design, geometric design, and of course, transit development. It takes a village!
Managed to catch some DOT contractors painting a new bus lane on University Ave in the Bronx this week. Really impressed with the crews working in heat wave conditions -- the 55,000 weekday bus riders on this corridor thank you!
Excited to be assisting in the design and implementation of this project, which will improve the experience for every bus rider, cyclist, and pedestrian that touches this corridor. Will try to post updates during the implementation process.
This month, we'll begin transit improvements on University Ave (Tremont Ave to Kingsbridge Rd) in #theBronx. This work will:
🚴♀️Add Bike Lanes
👨🦽Improve Bus Stop Accessibility
🚶♀️Enhance Pedestrian Safety
🚌Improve Bus Speeds and Reliability
Today we announced the official launch of the city’s e-scooter pilot in the East Bronx. @BirdRide, @limebike & @VeoRideMobility will bring up to 3,000 e-scooters to the area during Phase 1 starting Tuesday, 8/17, with an increase to as many as 6,000 in the second phase next year
