Smit relayed a hijack squawk code and managed to open the cockpit door even as he lay bleeding on the floor, his assailant co- pilot on top of him. The plane was 30 seconds from crashing and its thanks to Smit and the passengers who supported him that everyone is unscathed except Smit who is still recovering from stab wounds.
