Without the anchor of state tests around the neck of education, Imagine the risk taking, creativity, and innovation, we can see over the next couple of months. From admin, teachers, students and even parents.
I cringe a little at the common "noisy equals better learning" mantra. Sometimes quiet is the answer. Sometimes solitude. Sometimes a gentle hum of work. Not just for introverts but for all students. In a culture of noise, sometimes relevance isn't more noise. It's quiet.
Thank you for saying “fluent then automatic.” The biggest names in math education have no idea the damage they are doing by saying kids need fluency but not automaticity. The standards are very clear on this. We need to stop confusing teachers for no reason. It’s in writing!!
Do we learn math to solve problems or do we solve problems to learn math? Definitely something for all math teachers to reflect on with respect to their own instruction. Thanks @gfletchy for bringing tasks and task selection to the forefront. #CAMT18#gotmath#iteachmath#edchat
