UPDATE: Tim Tebow announces he is “pausing” his relationship with Life Surge following our @pablofindsout x @MotherJones investigation.
Our previous request for comment from Tebow, in reply to our detailed list of questions, still stands.
More to come.
Considering what she achieved in this David versus Goliath victory, Angie Nixon should have at least 100k followers TONIGHT.
Don't play with me, America politicos.
Angie Nixon is the story of the primaries. 16 to 1 financial advatage along with the full establishment,
a Black woman, for whom the state is well aware of, stood up to the Democratic Establishment machine, and with the help of some friends including but not limited to DSA,
Angie Nixon just pulled off the greatest political upset in recent political history.
Against the Vindmans!?!? (And yall both know I love and respect you two, no harm no foul).
What Shawn is describing is one of the most important truths in economic history and it gets said too rarely:
Enslaved people were not enslaved because their labor required enslavement.
They were enslaved because the people who controlled capital looked at a human being and calculated that ownership was more profitable than wages.
Everything else, the racial ideology, the legal architecture, the scientific racism, the biblical justifications, came after that calculation.
It was all built to defend a spreadsheet.
Dress it up however you want.
That is what it was.
This was precisely my point when critiquing Obama especially; because he is held up as this liberal embodiment of feel-good politics and America's moral supremacy— of a post-race America even. That he represents this moment where everything that was ever wrong with America ceases. That he never did anything bad or wrong. Much of this is because he is constantly held up in conjunction with Trump to hammer home how Trump is an exception to the legacy of the presidency and all that it entails. That Trump is a mere bump in the road and we will all go back to lovey-dovey kumbaya after he leaves office; and we can all go back to focusing on brunch instead of worrying about mass curtailing of civil liberties or such brazenly in your face state-sanctioned terror.
When as you allude to; that is not the case. Neither was Obama any different to his predecessors nor is Trump. Sure the methods for enacting violence; the measure of brutality; the very veneer and language it is wrapped up in, may very well differ.
But they ultimately all play(ed) a role in maintaining this white supremacist entity morphed into an imperial behemoth. Because that is what the responsibility of the presidency in particular places upon the individual; the highest office within a structure built for the purpose of securing the dominance of whiteness above all else. Because without that there is no America as we know it.
To secure and preserve this homeland; to trample upon and eradicate that which threatens this power structure. From indigenous resistance to slave rebellions to workers uniting to the Black Power movement to Palestinian solidarity; all crushed in the name of security and stability. Whiteness and capital are interchangeable in this regard; one feeds the other.
Whiteness as in what it means to have privilege. Race as a cultural construct has everything to do with resource allocation and exclusion. And America is founded upon this principle. When we say the preservation of whiteness we are not just speaking of white people; but those who buy a stake in that power structure of white supremacy. We speak of those who behave in and perceive the world through that lens; who purchase that privilege by adhering to its violence. Whatever their ethnicity or identity may be.
So it doesn't matter if your president is Black or white or Indian. It makes no difference to the position. The point of contention is that system and structure of violence they spearhead. When you don Caesar's robes, you must behave like Caesar. Nothing else matters. You cannot be accepted into that Oval Office if you are not willing to maintain that racial and class hierarchy; if you are not willing to secure the dominance of the elite who have always maintained their affluence and influence through these power dynamics.
Obama or Trump; they are by-products of the same system and ideology. They ultimately serve the same master. They will never turn against them; they will never tear it all down. They never actually care about you or will ever protect you. They will choose them over you every time. They are only there to play their position. To secure and protect the interests of those who grant them that position; those whose will keeps the entire system churning.
Whiteness = multi-class unity among Europeans. It’s class treason. To be a socialist, comrades of European descent must reject “whiteness”. It is fine to be Greek, Italian, German, Norwegian, Russian, Scottish or Irish and take pride in where your people come from. It is not fine to be a chauvinist and seek hegemony/rule over others.
DSA OFFICIALLY VOTES TO APPROVE R22: FOR A FIGHTING ANTI-ZIONIST DSA
This resolution not only affirms the commitment of the organization to anti-Zionism, but establishes clear, enforceable red lines regarding members and endorsed elected officials around Palestine.
This is a🧵on the parallels b/w the apartheid regimes in South Africa (1948-1994) and Israel (including Occupied Palestinian Territories) w/ a focus on the histories leading to the creation of the apartheid states, and the actions of both regimes to enact and maintain apartheid.
Beyoncé paid 64 cents/ hour to female workers who made clothes for her brand Ivy Park in sweatshops in Sri Lanka.
Reminds me of this photo from 2014, of women in Mauritius getting paid $1/ hr to make $70 t-shirts that say "This is what feminism looks like"
“It is just as absurd to propose that everyone resist fascist oppression through peaceful means as to propose armed resistance for everyone. Just because I’m a revolutionary anarcho-communist who believes in armed struggle does not dogmatize me to propose that everyone arm and go underground. Nor would I denounce those who refuse to do so.
Paradoxically, though these leftists bitterly denounce all violence by US revolutionaries against the US ruling class, they highly praise as “heroic” the armed violence of the revolutionaries in Africa, Asia, Ireland, the Middle-East and Latin America. The rule seems to be that armed violence is an acceptable form of revolutionary struggle except when employed by US revolutionaries against the fascist ruling class of the US. In effect, it’s as if the role of these left groups is to protect the ruling class from violence and confine the liberation struggle to the boundaries of legal activities approved by the ruling class.
However, the irrefutable truth is that a liberation struggle is revolutionary war. Revolutionary war is a complicated process of mass struggle, armed and unarmed, peace and violent, legal and clandestine, economic and political, where all forms of struggle are developed harmoniously around the axle of armed struggle. Anyone who by now has not grasped these basic facts does not know what liberation struggle is – or is trying to palm off reformism for liberation struggle.” - Martin Sostre
