@bds_union members at Brooklyn Defender Services in NYC are demanding that management bargain in good faith by offering serious counters. Stop stalling at the table after more than a year of negotiations!
Solidarity!

Right now @GovKathyHochul is pushing to upend bail *and* discovery laws.
That means more people in deathtrap jails without a trial, for longer, and without access to evidence in their cases.
That means more Kaliefs.
@AndreaSCousins and @CarlHeastie must reject it all.
A 🧵 on labor and bail reform: UAW Region 9A opposes Governor Hochul’s proposed changes to the landmark 2019 Bail Reforms. As part of the labor movement, we stand against a system which benefits the wealthy, while average working-class people languish in jail, awaiting trial.
ALAA calls on Senate Majority Leader @AndreaSCousins , Assembly Speaker @CarlHeastie and legislators, to continue to stand against these misguided rollbacks of Bail Reform and advance a budget that truly serves the needs of our members and all New Yorkers.
Huge congrats to our union siblings at Appellate Advocates! Appellate defenders and strong unions go together like fine wine and something that pairs really well with fine wine
A very exciting (and only slightly belated) announcement: in January, members of the OAD Union voted *unanimously* to ratify our first ever contract!
Curious about what a union could do for your workplace? Let’s walk through a few of the many improvements we won for our members:
.@GovKathyHochul's FY24 budget:
❌fails to fund public defense
❌fails to protect hard-fought bail reforms
❌fails to provide sufficient solutions for NY's housing crisis
❌fails to protect youth from invasive police interrogations

The NY Senate Judiciary Committee must reject LaSalle’s nomination today. We must confirm a Justice that will protect the rights of ALL New Yorkers, not just a select few. #NoonLaSalle
NYSACDL is profoundly disappointed in @GovKathyHochul’s nomination for Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals. The New York State Senate should not confirm Justice Hector LaSalle.

LSSA joins our parent union, @UAW, and other major unions in opposing @GovKathyHochul's Justice LaSalle nomination--New York is a union town and this nomination must be withdrawn #TheCourtNYDeserves
A reminder that if you have not contacted your Senator to vote #NoOnLaSalle you should do so now. We are 1 away from defeating this nomination. https://t.co/PYqNLr3UIP
There are 1000 things to do in Albany next year regarding child care, housing, climate, decarceration, etc.
Debating whether to confirm a conservative judge who's received unprecedented pushback would be a distraction.
Governor should pull the LaSalle nomination and replace it.
