Time to bow down to Curlin again. He sired the winner, is the damsire of the second place horse, and is the grandsire of third place finisher Ocelli.
Curlin had three runner-up finishers in the Derby before today (Journalism, Exaggerator, Good Magic).
Golden Tempo is bred on the same Curlin x Bernardini mare cross that has given us 7 GSW, 11 SW, &13 SH from 43 runners with the colt joining Clairiere & Paris Lights as G1 winners bred on the cross.
He's also one of 12 GSW, 17 SW, & 26 SH by Curlin o/o A.P. Indy granddaughters.
Masteroffoxhounds was born in Kentucky and educated at Ballydoyle. He broke his maiden in Ireland the day racing returned after COVID. He was a fixture of California racing for 6 years and earned over $700,000 for Gary Hartunian, aka Rockingham Ranch. After a last-place finish in the 2024 Seabiscuit Handicap, he had done enough. He was 7 years old. His form had tailed off. He deserved retirement but instead he got Jacobson, who squeezed four more races out of him last year. He beat a grand total of 4 horses in those races, earning just over $5,000 all year. And where did he go when Jacobson was through with him? To Juan Munoz Cano In Louisiana, of course. Cano ran him once in January. He finished last. And Cano has now dropped him down to 15k claiming, entered for Monday at the Fair Grounds.
It’s always “one last race” because they just don’t care. They’ve been contacted about retiring him. Read the embedded post from @juliawitte9 who has known Masteroffoxhounds for much of his life. It’s heartbreaking. It’s infuriating. Hartunian had his hands dirty with Navarro and poor X Y Jet. But the owners of the doped horses never get punished. Hartunian is running Turf Paradise now. Jacobson should never have gotten his license back. He tipped his cruel hand long ago. But here he is again. Just like Vitali. And Cano was suspended for 12 years but that’s no problem for Louisiana, who refuses to acknowledge HISA. It’s a clown show.
But what matters right now is what happens to Masteroffoxhounds. He can go to the Thoroughbred Retirement Network of Louisiana (@CDatrio26831). Cindy has offered him a home there.
Who can help make this happen?

I went to a free knitting class this past weekend at a little community church 30 minutes into the country (lost phone service 10 minutes from the church) and it was this 74 year old woman who had been knitting since she was 14 teaching a few community members knit and purl stitches. She bought everyone needles and yarn to use and printed out directions we got to take home. I learned how to get started so I am happy. She just sent me an email telling me we can meet up any time to work on projects & she’s made every mistake so can help me with any of mine. These are the women that keep culture going, I am so serious.
