كشف استطلاع جديد للبارومتر العربي، نُشرت نتائجه في مجلة «فورين أف��رس»، عن تحوّل في الرأي العام في البلدان العربية يتجاوز بكثير حدود المشاعر التقليدية المعادية للولايات المتحدة. شارك في الاستطلاع نحو 10,000 شخص من 8 دول عربية، وهي مصر والعراق والأردن ولبنان والمغرب وفلسطين وسوريا وتونس، وبالنسبة إلى معظمهم لم تعد الولايات المتحدة المركز السياسي الطبيعي للمنطقة، ولا القوة الأكثر قدرة على الدفاع عن الحقوق أو صون القانون الدولي أو تحقيق الاستقرار. وفي حالات كثيرة، باتت ال��ماهير العربية تنظر إلى الصين وروسيا، وحتى إلى إيران، نظرة أكثر إيجابية من نظرتها إلى واشنطن.
