IGP DISU ATTENDS POWA 2026 INAUGURAL ANNUAL CONVENTION IN ABUJA
The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) today commenced its three-day inaugural Annual National Convention at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja. The landmark event, themed "The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose, and Grace," marks the association's maiden annual general convention.
The convention was declared open by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, who was fully represented at the high-profile gathering. The event brought together notable dignitaries, including the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Riliwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, alongside members of the Force Management Team, past POWA National Presidents, and the sitting National President, Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu.
Also in attendance to show solidarity were the National President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Mernan Femi Oluyede; the National President of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Mrs. Aisha Is Abbas and the National President of the Fire Officers’ Wives Association (FOWA), Mrs. Olufunke Olumode, alongside a good number of POWA members, including the wives of senior Police officers from across the Federation.
In her opening remarks, the POWA National President, Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, passionately described the convention as "a gathering of women whose stories are rarely told, whose sacrifices are often unseen, yet whose strength quietly keeps the Nigeria Police Force standing." She noted that the convention serves as a climax to the association's recent unannounced welfare outreach visits across the Federal Capital Territory, which aimed to strengthen and empower officers' wives directly within their barracks.
While delivering his address, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Riliwan Disu, commended the foresight and dedication of the POWA leadership. He praised the recent welfare outreaches, noting that they reflect the finest values of empathy, kindness, and selfless service. The IGP emphasized the indispensable role that officers’ wives play in supporting and shaping the men behind the uniform, urging them to continue upholding the ideals of integrity, discipline, humility, and compassion which remain the hallmark of the association.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel and their families, promising continuous support for sustainable initiatives that promote family welfare, education, healthcare, skills acquisition, and socioeconomic empowerment.

Locking Down the Operational Future of the @PoliceNG: IGP Disu's UNCOPS 2026 Foray.
When IGP @TunjiDisu1 mounted the podium at UN Headquarters, New York, on July 7–8, 2026, he wasn't merely flying the NPF flag, he was locking down the operational future of policing for 230 million Nigerians in our peculiar security landscape.
Four Strategic Thrusts:
1. Commanding Nigeria's Seat at the Global High Table, In today's asymmetric warfare environment where terror financiers, cyber syndicates, and transnational cartels operate without borders, no nation can secure its territory in isolation. Disu ensured Nigeria isn't a passive consumer of security policy but an active architect shaping the global architecture of law enforcement cooperation.
2. Demanding Technological Parity, His battle cry: "Innovation must not remain the exclusive preserve of technologically advanced nations." This is about force multipliers, AI-driven threat anticipation, digital forensics, geospatial intelligence. For a force policing 230 million across difficult terrain, this isn't luxury; it's operational necessity.
3. Forging Operational Partnerships, Direct engagements with global police chiefs translate into actionable intelligence pipelines, joint task forces, and streamlined extradition protocols. When kidnapping rings span West Africa or drug shipments traverse multiple jurisdictions, these relationships become the difference between interdiction and impunity.
4. Bolstering Peacekeeping Credentials, Reinforcing Nigeria's UN mission contributions while extracting enhanced training, equipment, and command positions for Nigerian officers. Skills repatriated directly strengthen domestic operational capacity.
Deliverables on the Ground: Enhanced cybercrime interdiction capabilities. Activated intelligence-sharing networks. Technology transfer access. World-class tactical and investigative training for officers. Elevated soft power and diplomatic leverage. Battle-tested civilian protection frameworks for the Northeast theatre.
The Core Doctrine: "Technology can enhance policing, but never replace public trust." The IGP's vision fuses cutting-edge capability with transparency, accountability, and human rights compliance, the tripod upon which legitimate policing stands.
This wasn't protocol tourism. It was security statecraft. As threat actors weaponise AI and encrypted platforms, Nigeria chose strategic engagement over fortress mentality. The dividends: interdicted plots, dismantled fraud networks, arrested financiers, and a Force that commands the confidence of the citizenry.
That is why this mission will resonate across Nigeria's security landscape for operational cycles to come.

Pursuant to the strategic directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM @TunjiDisu1 , I undertook a familiarisation engagement with the Director of Army Public Relations. I was received with the utmost professional courtesy by the Director, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
This operational interface constituted a force-multiplying platform to harden the interoperability framework between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army. Our deliberations zeroed in on real-time intelligence fusion, synchronised strategic communications, kinetic and non-kinetic public information operations and the unyielding defence of our national territorial integrity and internal security architecture.
I wish to place on record my profound appreciation for the warm reception and the robust, outcome-driven dialogue that underscored our shared resolve to operationalize seamless joint-tasking, de-confliction protocols, and unified command structures in the relentless pursuit of peace, order, and the rule of law across the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
