The best venture investors don't chase every great company.
They spend years figuring out which managers will consistently find them first.
That's exactly what @aramverdi does.
As a Partner at @AccoladePrtnrs , he helps allocate more than $3 billion across venture capital funds, searching for the rare managers capable of producing top-decile returns over decades, not just one lucky fund.
Before returning to Accolade, Aram invested at Andreessen Horowitz, giving him perspective from both sides of the table: building venture firms and backing them.
One idea from our conversation stood out:
Relationships compound faster than capital.
Aram believes the best LPs don't simply wire money. They become the first call a GP makes when facing a difficult decision, whether it's raising a new fund, hiring a partner, or deciding whether to sell a winning investment. That trust isn't built during fundraising. It's earned over years of consistently showing up.
That philosophy has shaped how Accolade invests.
Rather than chasing every emerging manager, Aram looks for people with a genuine "right to win" — founders and investors whose unique networks, expertise, or reputation create an advantage that competitors can't easily replicate.
In venture, everyone talks about finding unicorns.
Aram's edge comes from finding the people who keep finding them.
Special shoutout to Steve Kaplan, Jamie Rhode, Peter Thiel, Ali Ghodsi and Matt Witheiler mentioned in this episode.

1) I’ve seen a lot of GPs/LPs accelerate their interest in Seed and frankly, I’m puzzled
We dive in on the data to discuss why investors may be wrong to chase returns of prior markets and why it's essential to untangle luck from skill amidst bull markets

Today I'm launching @asylumventures, a new venture firm dedicated to the creative act of building companies.
Asylum's first $55 million fund is an embodiment of my belief that founders are artists, not assets:
Lemniscap has raised $70M for a new fund anchored by Accolade Partners
@Lemniscap has raised a new fund worth $70M to invest in early-stage startups. @AccoladePrtnrs, a U.S.-based fund of funds, anchor the fund. Other limited partners of the fund include undisclosed high-net-worth individuals and founders of Lemniscap's portfolio companies.
Since its founding in 2017, #Lemniscap has made over 130 investments across its three funds. Some of its notable portfolio companies include @avax, @graphprotocol, @axelar, @Stepnofficial, @eigencloud, @puffer_finance, @monad_xyz, and @anoma.

2/7 We're proud to partner with @AccoladePrtnrs as the anchor of our fund and are looking forward to working with their team to power a decentralised & transparent future together.
I don’t understand why LPs ask me my opinion on other emerging managers
Shouldn’t matter whether I like them or even whether I think they are a good investor (with the exception of raising any red flags)
I/Equal have our own style and many other approaches can be successful. We’ll always have bias to our own and LPs should be mindful of that (much the way a high velocity investor might not love what we do).
A LP recently told me they do 20-30 references on a manager…frankly, this leads to VCs spending WAY too much time glad handing at networking events (of which, I attend plenty) rather than doing the job LPs are paying them to do
Different strokes for different folks, but if LPs prize independent conviction, would warrant them practicing a bit of their own to determine the outliers, rather than the consensus
Thrilled to announce our new funds - $825M KP 21 and $1.2B Select III to back early stage and high inflection companies. As always post and deck https://t.co/OcLARAcfw0 Deeply thankful to our founders, team, and investors.
We are on the precipice of incredible technology shifts that will transform industries, amplify the power of human ingenuity, and generate incredible economic growth. There hasn’t been a more exciting time for technology.
Like electricity, AI is advancing everything. From software, to hardware, to healthcare, to finance and legal, better and more efficient experiences can be built. Human creativity, complemented with machine intelligence can open up new experiences. Imagination is now the only constraint.
As technology rapidly evolves, our business, values, ethos, strategy and approach remain the same. Venture is an art and a craft that’s grounded in human connection. Our investment, go-to-market, marketing, talent and operating teams are all in service of helping entrepreneurs make history.
The best time to build is now and the future is bright!
