On August 19, 2003, a Hamas suicide bomber boarded a packed Jerusalem bus carrying families returning from the Western Wall, including children, and detonated explosives packed with ball bearings.

16 adults, 7 children, and 1 pregnant woman were killed that night and more than 130 wounded. Children were pulled from the wreckage. Survivors described blood, shrapnel, and body parts scattered across the bus.

And while Jerusalem mourned, fireworks were set off in Hebron to celebrate.
