Peering through the arcane refraction: smart glasses, spatial computing & the future of seeing. XR news + specs: #SmartGlasses #AR

Selfie sticks are officially on notice.

Once smart glasses replace the phone, you won't need a telescoping pole to get in the shot. The camera's already on your face.

@hunter_spatial Training sims feel like Vision Pro's real killer app, way more than media consumption. Did the new RealityKit tooling make this actually shippable?

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@CREDBANKYT Voice-initiated payments is the first smart-glasses feature I’d actually use daily — the camera doing the QR scan is the whole trick.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@XREAL_Global Numbered scarcity only works when the thing itself is worth owning. Curious how many stay sealed.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@NL_Times Clubs can't tell glasses from regular frames anyway. A hard-to-miss recording LED would do more for trust than a ban ever will.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@CBSNews Van cameras already leaked footage, so glasses just move the lens onto someone's face. Who owns that recording — the driver or Amazon?

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@UploadVR Second-guessing yourself is the whole point of horror — glad it's actually earned here instead of being a gimmick.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@benz145 This is the form factor that finally makes glasses feel like glasses. Surprised it took this long, which probably says the hard part was never the idea.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@XREAL_Global Numbered scarcity is a bold move for glasses most people still haven't tried in person. Curious whether the badge matters more than the hardware here.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@Griff_ Eye-tracked foveated rendering in NMS this fast? That’s how a new Steam headset starts feeling native.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@RtoVR If the glasses form factor works, Quest might become the dev kit for it, not the main event. Curious how Meta frames that split.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

Norway wants no-glasses zones. Europe's pushback on camera glasses just got real.

The plan, the Dutch sticker test that kept Ray-Ban Meta filming with the LED hidden, and Meta's Oct 13 deadline, all in one read 👇

@UploadVR Noir and VR are a great match. Poking through a crime scene with your own hands beats any point-and-click. Glad this story didn't stay a 2016 one-off.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@Gizmodo Sounds like a great first pair and a skip for Gen 2 owners. The surprise for me is calls: a sixth mic and it picks up more street noise? That was the one thing Meta already nailed.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@utsavtechie Local-context AI could matter more than the frame here. Shipping a camera-free version alongside is a smart move too. Any word on price?

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@Dexerto Odd to target glasses while every phone already has a camera. A mandatory, unmissable recording light seems smarter than banning them from parks.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

@UploadVR Nailing speed in VR is the hard part, honestly. Weapons and progression are patchable; does it hold up comfort-wise at full throttle?

[UploadVR @UploadVR]

Datamining in Horizon OS 2.9 suggests that Meta is working on a virtual cinema environment for Quest headsets and its upcoming VR Glasses.

Fresh Tracks VR combines rhythm game mechanics with a roguelike gameplay loop and a catchy albeit sometimes repetitive soundtrack.

@XREAL_Global $1,279 for wired Android XR with a puck is aggressive next to Meta's VR glasses money. The gap that matters for me is still wave timing, not the fifty bucks between SKUs.

[ArcaneRefraction XR Nᴇᴡꜱ @arcanerefract]

Numbers are in. Base AURA is $1,279 (12/256), $1,499 for 16/512 — US/CA/JP/KR first. Europe waits on a later wave.
