Big news in cyber insurance! Beazley, a London-based specialist insurer, has launched the first-ever cyber catastrophe bond, marking a milestone in the sector. The $45 million bond offers indemnity for all risks in excess of a $300 million catastrophic event. #cyberinsurance
According to insurers, the cost of cyber risk insurance has rocketed as demand for coverage outstrips supply. A recent report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) identified cyber insecurity as one of the top 10 risks facing governments and organizations over the next 10 years.
Businesses are at risk of being unable to secure cyber insurance coverage as the volume of cyber attacks reaches new levels. Companies are being required to put in place higher levels of cyber protection for their systems before they will be considered for cyber insurance.
A new report shows that 68% of start-up founders had experienced a cyberattack and 86% had cyber insurance coverage, but half believed their policy would only partially protect them in the event of a breach. The industry needs to do a better job according to Embroker.
