@AlyssaHannigan The show fell apart when it passed the books. That said, the books have their flaws that the show corrected. The show without the books on the other hand seem to wander.

@MarcusCVance I think probably not. But there are possible explanations -- cultural reasons, technological advancements that favor close range fighting, or make swords more concealable, like retractable. I feel to put them in there though, you need to do some world building to support it.
