i worked very hard, but i was also lucky. you can do things to increase your luck. i'll mention more than 3:

- contribute to open source projects, you learn by working with people across the world.

- focus on learning and building experience early in your career. work on as many different kinds of problems as you can.

- build a global network (the internet has made this easy), publicize your work, talk about the things you're doing.

- keep adding value to your network.

- there's a time to job hop. sometimes the best way to grow your income is to change jobs.

- better to have the one job that pays you well, than multiple jobs paying small.

- watch for lifestyle inflation. save and invest wisely.

- get mentors.

There's always a luck factor, so be patient with yourself.
