@matteopelleg Then you haven’t met many bitcoiners.
Nearly anyone who’s been around the block & has a wide circle of bitcoin friends could tell you that there are smart, experienced, wise bitcoiners on each side. Thats why this debate is tough.
To say otherwise is honestly disingenuous.
@JoshuaFortezza It seems pretty 50/50 to me. I’ve asked a lot of people there perspective. Really appreciate the merit based discussions from each side as I try to decide myself.
@CauliStack@ilovepoker This is one of the best arguments I’ve heard for bip110.
But my counter Q is what happens if in our pursuit of monetary purity at the L1, it causes a shitcoin to win?
My practical worry is about the game theory of BTC not being used vs other networks.

Genuine Q about bitcoin knots & BIP110 camp:
Doesn’t that make them shitcoiners?
If what they want is to stop is ordinals and ruins [which are dumb but for some reason have a market]. Doesnt that mean that market just goes to a growing shitcoin L1 instead? What am I missing?
@RC_Free_D Honest question. What harm?
Luke mentioned that it was reducing the attack vectors, but what is the attack? Is it the opcode size becoming too big or that we don’t like what’s on it?
I’m trying to better understand what the actual 80% impact is we should be worried about.
@MajorianBTC But aren’t we losing the monetary maximal fight?
Stablecoin volume (on ETH/SOL) far eclipses BTC payment volume. And only 40% of the BTC network is monetary now + that is almost all just hodl. Doesn’t BIP110 help ETH?
Do you want BTC used for TXs or just Wall st. digital gold?
@AdamSimecka I think everyone agrees L2s are the way to scale.
But the BTC network today is basically dead. Take 60% of the volume from dumb ordinal/runes, move it to ETH. + all payments are now on stablecoins (ETH).
BTC doesnt have a scale prob it has a useage prob.

@matteopelleg Isn’t Austrian economics a core pillar of why Satoshi started bitcoin?
“Strict network rules” sounds exactly like the monetary system he built bitcoin to fight against. What am I missing?

@elkrun21 Deciding if you want something to succeed or fail should be on the merit of the argument.
But for some reason there’s very little merit based arguments for bip110.
I’ve tried. It’s mostly crickets.

@Beautyon_ You said a lot of words but didn’t describe at all how bip110 actually helps more people get bitcoin.
By my estimation it actually reduces the pool of users. I’m not trolling, I’m genuinely trying to understand why you think it helps adoption.

@stackasaurus11@brian_trollz@CanexBTC@dotkrueger@tomyoungjr@Puncher522 I’m not a fan of core. But I’ve found very little good technical arguments for bip110 so far.
It’s strange how few of them will engage on substance for something as critical as a fork. I remain undecided but bip110ers aren’t really helping.

@BitcoinTeacher_ Havent decided yet. But Im worried about the game theory of bip110.
If you push dumb stuff (ordinals/runes) to an alt-chain — Its 60% of the volume of BTC now that would then go to like eth.
As a BTC maxi why would I want the risk of a fork to grow eth?

@311008DC@MayaPar25 Why?
Im honestly trying to understand both sides so I can signal myself.
So far I find it strange few bip110ers want to engage on a merit based discussion. Its all cultural arguments (which I agree with) & memes (here), but that doesnt really help me make a technical decision.
@Einsamwolf58184@MayaPar25 They = bip110 camp.
If you push this dumb stuff off BTC network, and there is a market for it, then 60% of the current BTC network moves to another blockchain (eth/sol). So you’re implicitly supporting a shitcoin.
Does the game theory not matter to bip110ers?
