@BayAreaNewLibs@eigenrobot Note, for instance, how many of the old elites sent sons to fight in the Civil War or WWI versus how many senators had sons in the GWOT.
@BayAreaNewLibs@eigenrobot Human impulses have always been the same but I think the old WASP elites had a genuinely better sense of duty and also more interests in common with the general public.
@BayAreaNewLibs@eigenrobot And that extent is fairly limited - they mostly don't care, and focus either on elite interests, inter-elite status jockeying, or other concerns.
@moultano There was a Berkeley experiment that showed the greener green to people by selectively exciting only green cones in their retina: https://t.co/BwXwShM2PN
@moultano That means there are "imaginary" greens and reds that not only can your screen not display, but that you can't see in normal life that are greener than green and redder than red.
@eigenrobot@AlexGodofsky The additional problem of "they might have dual loyalties that come up with respect to group X" which comes up with immigrant elites is kind of a minor problem compared to elites not having any loyalty to Americans in the first place.
@eigenrobot@AlexGodofsky I don't think any of the four people at the top of the thread show a strong sense of duty towards other Americans, but that's also true for a large number of white elites as well. That's just what elite culture looks like right now.
@eigenrobot@AlexGodofsky I actually think the immigrant elites are fairly rapidly assimilating into native elite culture. Problem is, that culture sucks.
@tracewoodgrains I think the other side of this is that people do actually go nuts like this, including likely the guy who you're imitating, it's sad when they do, and you made me feel briefly very worried for your sake.
