After my books were purchased by a collector and taken to Athens they were later; Taken to Rome, where they were edited and published there about 60 BCE by Andronicus of Rhodes, the last head of the Lyceum.
In order to keep my writings safe, I hide them in the Neleus of Scepsis, whose heirs hid them in a cellar to prevent their being confiscated for the library of the kings of Pergamum (in present-day Turkey). real sneaky huh
@ptolomycuz Plato made me more interested in whats inside of us otherwise than out there and suggest you to try the same. As the view of the soul as imprisoned in the body and as capable of a happier life only when the body has been left. Instead of looking up tonight look down and think.
My writings fall into two groups: those that were published but are now almost entirely lost which consists mainly of popular works ,and those that were not intended for publication but were collected and preserved by others which comprises treatises that I used in my teaching.
When Alexander died in 323, democratic Athens became different even for those who were anti-imperialist. Saying that he did not wish the city that had executed Socrates “to sin twice against philosophy,” Aristotle fled to Chalcis, where he died the following year.
One of my ideas that I started was logic. One of my forms of logic was Sophistical Refutations how to construct arguments for a position one has already decided to adopt; "the latter shows how to detect weaknesses in the arguments of others"
@aristolteninya That's real cool mang! I'm extremely interested, what ideas have you started? Did they cause controversy in the astronomical world? You know that besides my Theory of Light, I also helped enhance the scope of telescopes.
@HuygensLight This is very interesting to hear because I also started many new and upcoming ideas that most other people were completely not familar with, you seem to do that here as many seem completely lost in your words
Throughout my sciences I split up them into three kinds: productive, practical, and theoretical. Productive sciences, naturally enough, are those that have a product. Practical sciences, like ethics and politics. Theoretical sciences including physics, mathematics, and theology.
Unlike Plato and his jumping from one topic to another were ultimately confusing for people to understand. I changed that mindset to focus and dig deep upon one specific topic, referred to as intellectual discipline.
In the Lyceum I built a substantial library where all gathered around me to form a group of brilliant research students, called “peripatetics”. These were practically the foundaiton for my teachings and the spread of my knowledge.
Right outside of Athens, I started a school called the Lyceum when I was about 50.I wanted free education for everyone therefore that is why "The Lyceum was not a private club like the Academy; many of the lectures there were open to the general public and given free of charge."
I was the true zoologist, I did lots of research in the study of animals and their lives aswell as classifying them into more specific groups such as genus into species. This helped our current understanding of our animal kingdom and what is actually consisted within it.
@VFraunhofer123 Yes indeed, all of my peers thank me on the DL daily because my knowledge of this logic helps them move further into their understanding.
@TychoBr55931030 I was the first of my generation, so the fact I even thought at all was absurd to my peers! I was extremely curious and asked questions where the answers were practically impossible to reach because they were far too advanced for my time.
343 or 342 I was summoned by Philip II to the Macedonian capital at Pella to act as tutor to Philip’s 13-year-old son, the future Alexander the Great. I think thats pretty cool in my opinion, I practically brought up a mass murdering conqueror.
Although neither of my forms of logic amounts to a systematic treatise on formal logic, at the end of the Sophistical Refutations, I invented the discipline of logic in which nothing at all existed when I started.
