@Shpigford I know a company here in Japan selling Chinese knockoff stuff on Amazon. Thing is, these guys set up multiple seller accounts for the same stuff… its whack a mole
@UnseenJapanSite JR could have set them at twice these prices and they would still be booked out months ahead, like most luxury trains in Japan - but they would have been clobbered on Japanese social media.
@colecameron That’s both pathetic and hilarious. Who dreamed up this scheme and then forgot to tell the people on the ground? This sorta thing happens a lot in Indonesia, but Japan??
@kchau This is an awesome idea. My job takes me to factory floors at many heavy manufacturing plants, and they still use two way radio sets and earpieces to communicate a lot of the time. It’s fiddly, gets in the way, and the audio still sucks - iterate to solve this problem.
Probably the funniest graph ever published by the FT: our 3 possible futures are either 1) infinite wealth and abundance, 2) human extinction or 3) 0.2% faster GDP growth 🤣
@quiet_corner26 2 and 4: Reading the room, adherence to standards, and thinking of others as default leads to super orderly and polite society. Clean toilets, quiet trains,safe workplaces at the expense of some personal freedom and competition is a trade-off that I am willing to make.
@varrock Win-win situation, mostly
Rich guy and his dog are not overly inconvenienced
Luddites get to create protest art
Waymo gets free advertising on social media
Insurance companies pay for cleanup
@manyapan Whatever happened before the start of the video, the clerk is being very unprofessional. Hope he was fired.
Japanese customers often use casual language to order. He should get used to it.
Filipino? Looks like a central Asian (one of the Stans) to me.
@aakashgupta Thanks for this real answer. I’ve been telling friends the same thing. You could come and buy a house for $10000 in Japan, but you’ll need to spend 10 times as much to make it livable. Getting a visa to live (not just visit) in Japan is also an ordeal.
@SCP_Hughes@wrathofgnon Indonesia built a prestige, hugely expensive high speed train using a Chinese contractor, but it is running at a loss because basically it only relies on ticket revenue. For reasons I can’t fathom, the planned land development scheme never happened. What happened?
