In the 18th century, Swami Närāyana Singh (born, 1761), a Narauni Pratihara Rajput from Chandavar near Rasra Ballia, founded the Shivanārāyanis, a Sect now followed in 110+ countries. His influence reached even Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah Rangila, who later became his disciple.
Rajputs banned cow slaughter even when under Mughals, but Marathas legalised it while they were supposedly independent.
