🇺🇸 A Bible fused to steel.
March 30, 2002. A firefighter working the last of the South Tower pulled a charred scrap of scripture off the pile. Heat, rust, moisture, and concrete had baked the page to a chunk of World Trade Center metal.
The page had stayed open in Matthew 5.
"Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
A firefighter found it and called over photographer Joel Meyerowitz, who was documenting the pile. Meyerowitz carried it out wrapped in a scarf.
It is in the 9/11 Museum.
Check out that wingspan!
A dozen young California condors are spreading their wings at our conservation center. They'll stay with their parents for at least eight months before traveling to wild release sites in California and Arizona.
