One of our biggest challenges was taking an education issue and framing it through the lens of public health. Through further research about chronic absenteeism, we found there is a strong correlation between high absenteeism and negative life outcomes, especially poor health.

In recent years, chronic absenteeism has become a hot topic issue within the City of Newark. While stakeholders have tried to implement strategies & policies to solve CA, they have failed to gain youth perspective on the root causes of it, which our research is designed to do.
