Amazon is working on Project Tetromino, an early-stage effort to use AI and robotics to automate delivery stations, the final warehouse stop before packages reach drivers.

Internal documents reviewed by Business Insider outlined a 2028 pilot and projected the new design could process packages at roughly 2.5x the rate of existing stations.

The documents estimated more than $530M in investment by 2029, although Amazon says those figures and the proposed rollout timeline are inaccurate and do not reflect its current plans.

The system could also use Boxbot technology to automate package storage, sequencing and vehicle loading, some of the hardest parts of last-mile logistics to automate.
