Information flow has deteriorated in Indonesian markets, MSCI said ahead of a potential downgrade that could further compound issues for the world’s worst-performing equities https://t.co/lYybxxmkcp
The return of Cafe Salemba, a hugely influential blog for FEUI students at the time, takes me back to an old blog a few friends and I kept years ago, with @fikfik_fab and @rizkisiregar https://t.co/p0PH88euSD. It was fun!
This article is full of wild facts. For example, Jakarta recently overtook Tokyo as the world's largest city but has 6 train lines and 250 miles of track vs Tokyo's 158 lines and 2,930 miles
🚨Replication alert🚨
I'm pleased to announce that my replication of Moretti (2021) is now accepted as a comment at AER.
I find ten issues in the paper. My comment focuses on two major problems; in the appendix, I document eight (relatively) minor problems.

A Korean friend says SKY grads (SNU–Korea–Yonsei) had such an edge that Korea pushed “blind hiring” especially in the public sector, where applications often omit/forbid school names to reduce pedigree bias.
Just read about Suneung - the South Korean SAT which decides the college a kid will attend. And my goooodddd, it's crazy!
- 9 hour exam (wtf??)
- 500K+ testers every year
But the crazy part begins here...
- Entire nation goes into a soft lockdown on day of exam
- Offices open late, stock market opens late, so that roads are clear for student to reach exam centre on time
- If any student is running late, police will pick you up, blast a siren and get them there on time
- Traffic around test centres is blocked. No honking allowed
- All construction work is stopped on that day
And the craziest part....
- There is a 20-30 minute audio portion in the exam. No planes are allowed to take-off or land during that time to avoid noise
1. my professor asked me to write about jakarta most of the time because he knew so little about the city
2. i cant find things about jakarta in BARTLETT LIBRARY
3. my international study of transport and city planning professor thought we still use becak and bajaj up until today

Yes, Jakarta is sinking, but many, even college-educated ones, remain unaware! My coauthors and I just released a paper examining whether religion or science (which messenger and which narrative) more effectively warn Jakartans and makes the warning stick https://t.co/neEteL9dny
