@datapythonista@pandas_dev@DataPolars Right. df.col works only if col is not a method name, you cannot create a new column with this syntax, the performance impact is non trivial to assess, etc. Too many exceptions to learn (and to maintain in the code base).
Using methods could be an option but a huge shift.
@datapythonista@pandas_dev Also it would be great if we can get rid of at and iat with a refactoring of the indexing code. Most likely the performance gain of at and iat could be regained from the [] and i.[] APIs by reworking the actual very complex indexing code.
@datapythonista@pandas_dev The indexing api. I would like to have df[x] replace df.loc[x], df.i[x] replace df.iloc[x], and no more df.x
So the actual ambiguous df[] should be dropped. So with my proposal df[] is always on labels.
