One of the most enduring disinformation memes from the "war" in Gaza, promoted by slopagandists like pic related, is the idea that our IDF heroes were engaged in Stalingrad-style house to house urban combat in Gaza.

In fact, IDF ground troops entered extremely sparsely populated (evacuated) regions of Gaza, in which they had permission from their higher-ups to kill everyone they encountered, including little kids. Apart from psychological problems one encounters due to murder of obvious civilians, the environment in Gaza was radically easy for IDF ground troops. The enemy had no tanks, no artillery, no air force, etc; and you could just shoot everybody you saw (or, if you happened to have a more liberal commander who forbade the intentional killing of women and little kids, every teenage boy and man you saw)

How did the regions - of Gaza, one of the most densely populated places in the world - in which IDF ground troops operated become so sparsely populated? What happened is that the Israelis wanted to fight Hamas is sparsely populated areas, so issued Gazans evacuation orders. Because Hamas (unlike ISIS or the Tamil Tigers) isn't actually engaged in a "human shields" strategy, it didn't prevent evacuation at any significant level, despite some contemporaneous reports in Israeli and Western media alleging this occurred at a very small level.

By the way the Israelis did not issue these evacuation orders for humanitarian reasons. Rather, they were following what has been since the Second Boer War a standard method in combating guerrillas, who are more difficult and dangerous (for the soldiers themselves) to fight in densely populated areas. Issuing the evacuation orders also served the Israeli war aim of ethnic cleansing. Putin (in Mariupol) and Assad (in Aleppo) also issued civilian evacuation orders, and for the same reason.

Did some Hamas leaders say 'don't evacuate?' Yes. And there are reasons for that* that have nothing to do with 'human shields.' More importantly, they didn't stop evacuations at any kind of systematic level, which is why 99% of the civilians are now behind the yellow line. Zero analogy whatsoever to actual cases of human shielding like ISIS in Mosul or the Tamil Tigers, which violently coerced big civilian populations to stay in place.

In general the "human shields" narrative is mouth-breather college dropout level slop.

* The biggest reason is that Hamas didn't want to lose territory to the IDF. Ultimately, it doesn't matter, because basically everyone was allowed to evacuate, contrary to what these contemporaneous news items suggest.

If Hamas "operated in a way such to maximize civilian casualties," as clown @TheOmniLiberal says, Hamas wouldn't have allowed civilian evacuations. It would've obstructed them, as ISIS and the Tamil Tigers did. Yet, in point of fact, the vast majority of Gazan civilians could and did follow IDF evacuation orders, and IDF ground troops, when they fought Hamas, fought them in sparsely populated evacuated areas.

Anyone who thinks this guy is smart or serious loses my respect immediately.
