We spend $100billion/year on SNAP benefits for the poor. Single biggest spend on that program is sugary drinks.

Medicaid then pays for bariatric surgery with close to no patient cost to the tune of $10k-$15k/ procedure.

Literature for gastric sleeve is 10% have regained all their weight at 5 years. I suspect that number is a lot higher in longer term follow up.

You can talk about decreasing taxes on the poor, increasing some taxes on capital gains and corporations. You can even increase income taxes on high earners, but you progressives will go after people’s wealth and property. It doesn’t matter whether they are millionaires or billionaires, but this idea and your vision of wealth confiscation of people who are more successful than you and have done more for America than any of you is just abhorrent.

There should be no property tax on your primary residence. California already imposes numerous other absurd taxes. If you genuinely want young people to achieve homeownership, build more houses instead of resorting to baseless arguments about increasing taxes on the elderly population who might be compelled to sell their homes. Have any of you academics ever interacted with an elderly population who have spent their whole life in their family homes, but will now might be forced to sell their primary home because of an increase in their monthly tax bill? This is a ridiculous and flawed argument!
