I like the Erik Erikson model for psychological development

Ages 20-45 is the Generative vs Stagnation stage of life

Its when we WORK, create, produce, contribute

He calls this Generativity-when you do work that you believe matters, gives you purpose, connection

Vs Stagnativity-you dont work, or it feels pointless, or you become self absorbed and disconnected

Eventually in 40s or 50s you become contemplative, reflect on what you built (maybe you keep building because the vision is incomplete)

If youre proud of it you have ego integrity, what you did mattered, you can enjoy the fruits of labor

Or you despair if you have regrets and it felt wasted, pointless, it left you disconnected
