Cómo no te va a deprimir compararte con influencers, si te estás comparando con personas que dedican todo su tiempo a su cuidado personal, que mantener su físico es “su trabajo” y que su labor diaria es despertarse, preparar buena comida, cuidarse la piel, entrenar, trabajar sus hobbies… tú no puedes hacer eso porque TRABAJAS y el poco tiempo que te sobra se lo tienes que dedicar a sobrevivir y mantener tus relaciones sociales. La comparación no es que sea injusta, es que es absurda.

Madrid is speedrunning the “superstar city” cycle.

For decades it was a stunning capital but still strangely local, Spanish and underrated vs London, Paris or NYC.

Then post-Covid, everything changed. Rich Americans moving in. LATAM money. Luxury hotels. F1. International schools. Coffee shops. Private members clubs. €8 pistachio lattes.

Now house prices are +62% in 5 years, rents +64%, and locals are protesting because the city is becoming a lifestyle product for people who don’t actually need to live there.

This is basically what happened to Lisbon/Barcelona/NYC/London, but compressed into one post-Covid cycle.

This is the tragedy of great cities: the more desirable they become, the less they belong to the people who made them desirable.

The US spends $0 on federally mandated paid parental leave. Its fertility rate just hit an all-time low. And now we’re writing magazine pieces asking why parents have regrets.

The US fertility rate hit 1.599 in 2024. Down from 2.1 in 2007. The country can’t replace its own population anymore.

Three moms tell NY Mag they want their old lives back, and 70,000 people visit r/regretfulparents every week. Studies put the number at 8-14% of parents who’d choose differently if they could rewind.

But the framing of “regret” as a personal feeling misses what’s actually happening. The cost of raising a child in the US hit $310,000+ through age 17 by USDA estimates. Childcare runs $12,000-$15,000 a year. The US is one of six countries on earth with zero federally mandated paid parental leave.

You have a system that tells people parenthood is life’s greatest purpose, provides almost no structural support for it, then calls them broken when they struggle.

The 70,000 weekly visitors to that subreddit aren’t experiencing a psychological anomaly. They’re the honest ones in a system where 62% of women say they’re unsure about having more kids and fertility just fell off a cliff.

We keep calling this a stigma problem. It’s a policy failure.

Tras controlar factores como la maternidad y las elecciones que las mujeres hacen anticipando tener hijos (por ejemplo, carreras menos exigentes, trabajos con flexibilidad pero menor pago, interrupciones laborales), la brecha salarial desaparece o se reduce drásticamente. Esto refuerza el trabajo de Claudia Goldin (ganadora del Nobel de Economía en 2023), quien ya había mostrado que la maternidad es el principal motor de la brecha.

Mi aita falleció, me pasé esos 5 días de trámites con la funeraria, papeleos con la gestoría para las cuentas bancarias, quedarme en casa de mi ama para que no estuviese sola. Para cuando acabaron tuve que volver a trabajar sin haber podido llorar en la intimidad a mi aita.
